Can anyone recommend the best place to buy games for the mac? none of the main game stores in dublin seem to stock anything.

On that note, what games play well on the Intel Mac Mini

    Mainstream games.
I.e., not games that want you to have a bleeding-edge games rig.

The graphics chip is an Intel GMA950.

Tell me, its something I'm having a hardtime finding out, you think macbook would play Counter strike source or defcon if it was running Windows.

Just curious about how good the Intel GMA950 is.

    GMA's are low-end integrated cards I believe.

It'll run Half-Life 2 anyway. Under Windows it's allotted more RAM, so you'll probably get better performance.

    Anyway decent with Half-Life 2?
I've seen performance charts for Quake 4 and Doom 3 and it doesn't appear to fair very well unfortunately :(

I don't think I can justify the bones of 400e for a low end macbook pro just for better graphics and a backlite keyboard

I only played the opening of HL2 with it, but it ran fine. Graphics were good, and a smooth framerate.

Marathon is probably awesome. I say probably since I don't bother with FPS games much these days.
Armagetron Advanced I played once -- fun, tho I didn't actually know the controls :p
Battle for Wesnoth is a very good turn-based strategy game.
It also suffers like most turn-based strategy games -- namely, predictable AI & difficulty spikes (where one mistake means you have to restart the map).
SNES9X is awesome. But probably illegal :p
Frozen Bubble is your standard Puzzle Bobble/Bust-a-Move clone. Nothing special.

If you want some retro shoot-em-ups, do a search on the Apple Site -> Downloads for these games:
    • Gunroar
    • Parsec47
    • Psy-no
    • rRootage
    • Torus Trooper
    • Tumiki Fighters
Might not be to your tastes, but they're small ;) Try them out.
