    hi all

i never thought there was life after boss
and am now learning of all the other brands...
(electro harmonix, mxr, ProCo, etc etc)

whats your ultimate stomp box for the obvious categories:
od/distortion, delays, chorus, flanger, wah, phasers etc etc

    ciao

    Distortion - MXR Distortion+
    Delays - Line 6 DL4
    Chorus - Boss CE-5
    Flanger/Phaser - Small Stone
    Wah - Dunlop

They're just what I like. Love the distortion plus. That said, I love my effects and just use a GT-8. Does exactly what I want.

i'd love to get my hands on that electro harmonix synth pedal, i hear it's meant to be the ****.

od/distortion wise it's got to be a RAT.

    Od-TS-9
    Delay-DL4
    Chorus-EH Small clone
    Wah-Vox V748
    Phaser-MXR 90
    Envelope Filter-Moog

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,693 ✭✭✭david

    OD/DS - RAT
Delay - Hmm.. ill say E2 headrush but im liking my Ibanez AD9 lately
    Phase - Stone obviously
    Trem - Catalinbread Semaphore
    Chorus - Maxon CS505
Weirdo stuff - NOT an EHX microsynth.. couldnt get rid of it fast enough.

I like my MXR ZW44 overdrive. Not heavy metal at all, very smooth & works great with high gain amps.

Not too picky about the rest...

    behringer tube overdrive

    :)

Pod XT Live. It's got everything, and then some. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Distortion: If I'm not using my amp, a ProCo "You Dirty RAT"
    Delay: Boss DD-6
    Reverb: EHX Holy Grail

After that the rest are just details.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

When I used stomp boxes, I used a DS1 to overdrive the already dirty channel on my amp, and a Dunlop Wah. These days the Gt-Pro does it all, and then some!

i got the pod xt live and that is all the effects any man should need

    OD - Blues Driver
    Dist - RAT
    Fuzz - Big Muff
    Delay - DD20
    Reverb - Digiverb or Magicstomp
    Chorus - Small Clone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,906 ✭✭✭DeadSkin

The mighty POD XT live, it's all there:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 648 ✭✭✭Neo#

    My pedals arent bad:

    Overdrive - TS9
    Wah - WH10
    phase - mxr phase 90
    fuzz - big muff
    compressor - cs2
    eq - boss ge7
    delay - deluxe memory man

Im thinking of getting one of those boss space echo pedals when they come out. the originals were meant to be really cool.

    hi all

    thread starter here

its about stomps boxes! not xt's or gt-6's!

a lot of punters reckon stomps are much better than multi fx
as they are not as digital or synthetic?!

    Boss Ge-7 Eq
    Boss Tu-tuner
    Boss Ps-5 Super Shifter

i have a maxon cs-505 chorus, a dunlop bass wah, mxr overdrive pedal amongst others and the pod xt live sounds 'exactly the same' dude, alot of that talk(in my experience) of the original pedals sounding better than emulated ones on multi-effect boards is not entirely accurate imo

basically everybody has their own opinion on this differance and thats what its gonna come down to and the next 3-4 pages of comments will reflect this statement

was there something/sometype of pedal you had your eye on or just having a look to see whats bout in general?

    Hi all,

I personally would not know the difference

    basically, i have a long loan of a gt6 (which i love)
and am wondering whether to just buy one or to get stomps,

the stomp box route is way more costly obviously
    and not as versatile,

i would be interested in the multi vs. stomps debate though!

bet ya a tenner all the metallers say multi-fx
and all the vintage/bluesy types say stomps! ;)

    ciao

ah depends what ur into i started off a few years ago, didnt even know about multifx, got a wah then got an eq then a compressor then a chorus, jus kinda got em over the years they built up.. so i use em.

i like the simplicity of using multifx or one system and a midi floorboard nowadays theres some decent gear, but love using the pedals live, its extra effort but just like it...

if im jaming, feeling lazy or going somewhere where i cant use my gear..

I just bring my podxt out with me...

I could sell everytihng and get a g system instead but highly unlikely

Overdrive- My Monte Allums modded SD-1
    Trem- EHX Pulsar
    Fuzz- Big Muff
    Delay- Echoplex!

I would've said the opposite. Individual pedals generally allow for greater control and far easier editing of settings.

Also, any multi-fx pedal is a single point of failure for playing live, at least if one of your pedals cacks itself you can disconnect it from the chain and continue your set(with your remaing fx intact)!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,817 ✭✭✭✭Dord

    od/distortion - Ibanez TS808
wah - Morley Power Wah Boost
envelope filter - Electro Harmonix Bass Balls
Fuzz - Electro Harmonix Big Muff

I have to say, I love EHX pedals. They've got some cool sounds. :)

How can you people forget about the ultimate stomp boxes.

Damage control stomp boxes are the bees knees and actually have tubes in them for added warmth.

Cost an arm and a leg though :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,355 ✭✭✭punchdrunk

are there L.E.D's stuck in behind the valves or are they really being hit by the proper plate voltage? if the ain't gettin the right juice to the valves then they're just tubescreamers with boy racer bits!

sweet collection MOS,were did you find the DSD??
i've got a ps-3 myself but the jury is out on it,it's a love/hate thing!
i've got an lm-2 as well but haven't really found a use for it,kinda like my dynacomp...it's good but i don't really need it,except maybe for recording?

freak i can't praise the dm-2 enough,i've finally filled the hole left by my ad-9 that went AWOL :(

yeah the ce-2 is andy summers in a box,but as a bonus robert smith is thrown in for free, thats 100% EXTRA 80's free!!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,013 ✭✭✭SirLemonhead

The PS-2 is nice for really warm slightly dirty sounding delay. 2 seconds of it too :D

I ran one of my preamps into the pc before using the LM-2 and it made a noticable difference for me, so give it a go for recording.

    I still crave a VB-2...

I've a PH 3 and the volume cut annoys me....is that common with phasers?
The TR 2 is my fav these days.

I dunnos but they are actually meant to sound great anyway. Prolly not justifying the price tag but still nice.

I agree too. I prefer knobs on individual units to adjust, rather than scrolling though banks on a multi-FX and saving my changes. And if I ever buy a multi-effect unit, it'll be the analogue Carl Martin Quattro. Actually, screw that: I want one of those now, just because...

At the moment, for gigs, I go: guitar > Dunlop wah (that has just, as our American cousins say, "crapped out on me") > Seymour Duncan Twin Tube preamp/OD pedal > Boss EQ > Ibanez chorus reissue > Boss DD3.

If there was a fire, and I could only take one unit with me, it'd be the Twin Tube. Over the last few months, it has become an integral part of my sound.

I play everything really, although I tend towards more bluesy stuff, and a GT-8 is fine.

With a midi controller you have so much versatility.
