Hey guys, I don't normally venture in here as I know nothing about any of this, but I need to ask a recommendation of you.

I'm looking to replace a busted amp as a 21st birthday present. It needs to be small and portable (public bus for transport), but enough to make some noise with :D The one that I am looking to replace is a Fender Squier SP10.

Should I try to find the same make and model, or is there anything along the same lines size wise that you might be able to recommend instead?

    Thanks in advance.

Microcube. You can pick them up in most instrument stores here for about €100-110. Battery and mains powered. Brilliant piece of kit, surprised no one's mentioned it yet :D

Is anyone going to suggest something other than the Microcube? No? Nah. ;)

    Microcube.

So no chance of any kind of agreement from you then... Even a slim majority vote will do.

Microcube OR Orange Crush 15. A sweet little amp too.

I'm going to have to go against all previous reccomendations and suggest a Microcube.

I'll go against the grain! Depends what you want it for: home jamming on your own, go with the microcube (though I have a soft spot for the classic Pignose: perfect for old style Hubert Sumlin).

However, if you're interested in a valve combo that is dead light and is in the gig-volume ballpark, for the cash, I couldn't recommend the Laney VC15 1x10" combo highly enough. It's a bit noisy on the high-gain settings (but that's what guitar volume controls were invented for), and the effects loop is worse than useless (for me, anyway), but you can get some great tones from it. My favourite is to keep gain to max, with master fairly high, and use the separate volume controls on my LP to switch between mild overdrive and all-out wail.

Also, push gain to max and put master to max and you get that musical, controllable harmonic borderline feedback, like Ted Nugent used to use back in the day. I love it.
