Uhm, dunno how my post is at the top, must be some shenanigans with the database...

Anyway... I've decided to reopen this thread, as I linked to the wrong thread, and the relevant thread is short, with not much info. Apologies! :)

i wonder if the Hd subscription will come down now? even to €10 a month.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 70 ✭✭webbie

Anyone know what 'free' means in this case?

Does it mean that if I cancel my subscription to sky completely my Sky+ recording will still work on FTA channels, or do I still need to have a sky subscription in order for recording to work. If it is the later then calling it 'free' is a bit of a stretch.

I'd say you'll definately have to be a Sky customer, they're not that generous!

Do any of you 'connected' people know how Sky are going to market/sell this to existing customers without Sky+??

Cos i just have the basic, but have been wanting Sky+ for a while now. Dont have an active phone line, but wont be multiroom-ing, so was considering a self install.

Will Sky be offering a free upgrade/installation or even a reduced one?

It's too soon for any information on Sky offers, considering how often they're changed.

The old marketing spin when they really mean "included". I'd suspect included.

I wonder if Sky will now find that a lot of Sky+ customers who had sport or movies now cancel those. A lot of people (including me) only got the movies so I could avoid the €15 sub.

    Looks like it's official now:

    No mention of Ireland though.

they did up the price of sky+ box's or something as Im thinking about getting sky+ when they get rid of the monthly fee but looking at the site atm, sky+ box is 149 euros! plus 75 euros installation. I though they were 99 euros or something a few months ago when I looked. So any money you safe on the monthly fee is just gonna be used up on the 224 euros just to get the box installed.

Sky's offers vary quite often. They've been €149 for a few months now.

Still, 224eur for a PVR installed isn't expensive.

I cancelled the sky+ on my multiroom box last week, before the announcement as i stopped sky sports for the summer, and it still works. I even called back the following day to ensure it was cancelled, the sky rep did it again and it is still working......just waiting for the next direct debit to see if it has been removed or not.

my letter arrived this morning from sky telling me it's all free free free i tells you from 1st july...

If I'm on a standard Sky digital today and bought a sky+ box on eBay (and a quad LNB) would I be able to avail of sky+?

    Can anybody hazard a guess?

you would most likely have to ring sky to get it activated, which i would imagine woudlnt be a problem if the service is going to be free anyway.

either way, there is one sure fire way of finding out, give it a shot! (which is probably not what you want to hear )

That's what I did, got a Sky+ PVR3 Pace on eBay, and then when I had it installed, rang Sky Customer Services to turn on the "Plus" features. I had to ring twice though - first time I got through to an Asian who I could barely understand, and he then told me he couldn't as the system was down til the day after! I rang again, got through to a Scottish woman, who sorted it out in minutes.

When ringing Sky, it's a lottery as to whether you'll get a competent CSR or not.

Probably because you said these changes were for February 12, not July 1.

Could you please read my opening statement of the thread again, and when your done, go back and read it again.

It reads "My reliable source has told me of a few, but not all of, amazing deals to begin with Sky on the 12th of Feb."

Perhaps I did no emphasize the word "begin". I did no where in the first post of that thread said they were to begin on the 12th of Feb. As far as Sky's promotion team are concerned, the 12th was their kick off date for the up & coming promotions.

Oh, I understand where you were coming from, though must admit at the time, I didn't fully realise you meant FROM 12 Feb as opposed to ON 12 Feb.

Anyway, that's neither here nor there anymore. Free Sky+ is on it's way (as you did say).

I'm intrigued by the Multiroom box of sorts you mentioned might be appearing at the end of the year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,078 ✭✭✭bigpaddy2004

Funny enough you bring up the multiroom issue because I was told by the same guy only last week that on the 1st or the 9th of September Sky are going to do this a little differently. Seemingly when you get the second box in, its €15 per month. Up to the next 3 multiroom box's after that are subscription free. This is what I am being told, but really find it hard to believe myself.
Was looking at a Chours leaflet today, I think they are beginning to give Sky a run for their money. I would definitley have to have a good think about it now.

Hmm. Actually, I can see that happen. Be good if it did, at least for those with more than 1 Multiroom box. It would be either that or lower the €15 per Multiroom box. Sky might get more Multiroom subs with the first option, as people will have the chance to have 4 Multiroom boxes for an all in €15pm.

I am in receipt of said Sky + letter which seems real enough, however at the bottom of the page it says the following,"However, should you decide to stop
subscribing to Sky Digital but you still wish to use all the great features of Sky + you will need to start paying the £10 per month Sky + subscription again. Hope this is of some help.

Just 'downgraded' my full package to Variety+Knowledge (plus you get terrestrials with that RTE,BBCNI,C4,TV3)
Was told Sky+ free from July 1st so my monthly outlay will be €21.50 from July 1st with Sky+.

Very happy with that. Going from €792 pa (!) to €258 pa

Hmm, I must downgrade too very soon, now that the SKy+ is to be dropped.

I've been meaning to pick up the phone and do it for weeks now - Sports and Movies I can do without esp Movies, it really is not worth it.
The music package doesn't float my boat as for UKTV Wonderful Sheds - eh, no thanks!:D

I'm delighted Sky+ is now 'free'! The savings I'm making is huge.

Well I will have to say, I have being doing installs for Sky for the past 9 years, 9 years of my life has revolved around them, and now I too am actually really considering scrapping the whole thing all together its just that bad. Honestly though, the only channels watched here is Net2 & TV3. Sky Movies is an absolute joke. I only have them for the recording feature. Since Sky+ came out I can say I have never actually watched a movie on it from start to finish. It would be interesting to have a poll and see who will be "downgrading" because of this.

If i contact Sky to downgrade to a 2 mix package, how long does it take for the downgrade to take effect? Immediately or one month. I gather it takes a month for a cancellation to happen, is it the same with a downgrade?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,492 ✭✭✭Sir Oxman

I've been on Sky's full package for 3 years and and watched a few of the movie channels at the start but it has got considerably worse value - Sky+ was the killer addon which I guess enticed and kept a huge percentage of the premium subscribers.
Sports I know is v popular but I guess a lot of people thought, what the hell might as well have Movies as well when it meant Sky+ was sort of free. Sky are cunning with their pricing...

I'll do without Sports and maybe go the season ticket route come August but the savings I've made after finally getting up off my lazy arse to ring them is astounding (I think anyway, over €500pa!)

    Mine happened within 5 minutes.
I had already paid the full price till 20th June so my next bill will be something like €5.20 and then 21.50 after that.
I opted to keep Sky+ facilities from 20th june till 1st july (pay for it pro rata)

Surprisingly, there was no long drawn out attempts to keep me on the full package.
Not that I wanted that hassle anyways.

I'll let youse know if I get a call in the next day or two with any offers.
