labret piercing damaging my gum, any ideas?

    Hey guys,

I had my labret pierced for about 3 years, but I noticed that it started to screw my gums (up just behind the back of the piercing). I'm really annoyed 'cause I really loved it - but I had to take it out. Before I did I tried the plastic type of backing so it would not damage my gum, but the ball wouldn't stay attached to the stem of the plastic stud. Is there any way I can have it pierced again without it wrecking my gums?

I know I could move it up a bit, but I don't really want my lip pierced. I really like the look of it down just above the chin.

Any ideas would be great! :)

    Thanks,

    R.

Keep it in and start saving for some periodontic treatment.

    It's a tough one! ;)

Yeah, I tried the plastic retainer jobby - but the feckin stud just kept slipping off. I read on a UK forum that quite a few people were having the same problem.

Pity... I'd h8 to see it go - well it's gone for now but I'd really like to have it pierced again.

    Cheers,

Plastic retainers still erode the gumline :( it's all about placement.

You could try switching the jewelry just to see if it makes a difference, I have a ring and it doesn't touch my gums.

Does that not screw with your teeth then?

Whatever way my ring is placed it doesn't touch my teeth or gums at all. But when I have a stud in it scrapes the gumline and has a tendency to get bitten.

I managed to put it back in yesterday.

Ouch! I must say that was the only time I thought body piercing was actually painful to get done. I did not mind my septum or tongue at all but the labret I found painful.

I'll go into one of the piercing shops in town and get a smaller Labret and see if they can offer any suggestions.

Cheers for all the help guys, :D

    Rob.
