Problem when connecting external HD or Card Reader.

Usually, when I put a Compact Flash card in my card reader (which is connected to the computer and active) or when I start up my external hard drive (also connected to the computer) a small window opens asking: What do you want Windows to do?

A list of about five options is offered and I usually choose the 'Open folder to display files' (I think that's what it says) option.

However, something is wrong and when I do either of the above, the small window that opens is blank! The heading at the top asking what I want to do is there alright, but there are no options in the window.

What have I done to change this?

    Thanks.

    D.

Someone suggested that I go Start/External HD/Properties/AutoPlay and choose Mixed Content from the drop down menu and then 'Prompt me each time to choose and action' followed by Apply.

The problem is that only the 'Music files' option from the drop down menu has any options in the window (Open folder to view files: Take no action etc..etc..)

The other three present a blank window.

How can I restore the actions to the 'Pictures' and 'Mixed Content' options?

    Many thanks.

    D.
