    Hi Folks,
Had a bit of a discussion on who should win the following hands. All players where novices. I'm hoping you can me know who the winner should be in the following hands.

River : 2 diamonds, 2 Harts, King Spades, King Diamonds, 5 Harts.
    Player1: Pair of 8's
    Player2: 5 clubs, 10 Spades

Also there was a second hand that lead to more discussion:
River has five harts, a flush.
Player1 has a club and diamond
Player2 has king Harts and spade.

Player2 thought he should win because he had a king of harts and king was highest card on the flush board, but there was no straigh flush. Should both player have tied the board?

Hope someone on here can help out, there lead to a sum of money being wagered on the outcome of the results.

    Thanks
    Gings

Hand 1, player 1 wins as he has higher two pair, kings eights with a five kicker
Hand 2, player 2 wins as he has the higher flush.

In the first hand, the player with the pair of eights wins as his hand is KK885 his opponent has only KK55T.

In hand 2, the player with the King of hearts wins as he has a higher flush than the other player by using the card in his hand. It would only be a split pot here if the board had 5 of the same suit higher than the value of the card of the same suit in the players hand, or if neither had a flush card, or if a straight flush was on the board that no one could improve on.

    First case :
    Player 1's best 5 card hand is 2 pair : Two Ks, Two 8's and a 5
    Player 2's best 5 card hand is 2 pair : Two Ks, Two 5's and a 10

For two pair - highest pair wins, if both have same highest pair, then player with higher 2nd pair wins. If both have same two pair then highest remaining card wins. In this case Ks & 8s beats Ks & 5s (since 88 higher than 55).

    Second case :
Player 1's best 5 card hand is flush : Lower than K as highest card
Player 2's best 5 card hand is flush : K as highest card

For flush - highest card in the flush wins. In this case player 2 has a higher flush than player 1 and wins.

Hope you were player 1 and player 2 respectively,

    Fintan

In holdem you make the best 5 card hand from the 7 available to you (the 5 community cards and your two hole cards)

    hand 1:
player 1 has KK885 as his highest 5 card hand
player 2 has KK55T as his highest 5 card hand.

    player 1 wins

    hand 2:
player 2 has a K high flush and wins.

If neither player had a heart then it is a split pot

Is it necessary to have 5 people give him the same, correct, answer?

    I think he gets it...

Yes, it is. It provides a depth of feedback that shows there is no doubt in the ruling. Would you accept the word of the first person who replied?

Subsequent replies have also expanded on WHY the players win which is better then just giving the answer. Teach a man to fish etc...

Every answer after p_l's seems to offer a pretty conclusive answer as to why each person wins.

Phantom and sendic's replies seem pretty unnecessary in my opinion. But sure what does it matter.
