I am 20years old with a full irish driving license.

I want to get my bike license and I am wondering what steps i have to take?

I know i am only entitled to my provisional but what do I need to fill out and do in order to get it?

I did the theory test when i got my original driving license, am i right in saying I dont need to do this again or what do i need to do. I can drop into the motor tax office tomorrow to get everything sorted if i know what i need.

well if you have a driving license, you should know what to do already ;)

I'd imagine, unfortunately, since the new theory tests came in (including the bike specific one) I think you're going to have to take a new theory test. Since you have a license already, I think you're exempt from the eye sight test requirement at least.

There might be a possibility that the original theory test you took is still valid - but Im not sure about that... how long ago did you take one?

As far as I know, you need to do the theory test every time you add a new category to your licence. So get this out of the way and then get some lessons.

Phew, just passed the theory test 35/40, one more and I would have failed.

The galling thing is that I have already got a full licence for cars, fair enough. So I applied for the theory test for the A licence. Got a book out of the library and began studying. The book has got huge since the last time I did it, all colour coded for various vehicles. There is a large green section - general stuff. The bike section is Red, trucks brown etc. I called up the test crowd and asked them if I should be focusing on the red only, they said thats all for the A test. So I went in to the test, with the red stuff nearly down pat (Ok well not exactly, I have three kids and two jobs if you know my meaning), in I went and sure enough it was mostly questions from the green section. I was real lucky I passed.
