    Hi folks,

I am developing a system that requires me to scan in documents in jpeg or gif files.
This works great assuming you can scan in 1 page documents.

But i was wondering - do scanners allow you to scan multiple pages into 1 jpeg or gif image?

Ive heard/seen its possible with tiff - but not so sure about jpg? any help please

Not that I know of. There is a format called "multi-page TIFF" that is often used, for example, by FAX software.

Why do they have to be GIF/JPEG?

because ive designed my program so that they will upload gifs and jpegs - it was not easy to do and cannot easily change - so i am hoping and praying that gifs/jpegs allow it also. surely if i renamed a tiff as a jpeg then it would work?

I just renamed a multipaged tiff doc as .jpg and it opened fine for me. I dont think there is a way to scan it as a .jpg originally though, I think it has to be .tiff

It depends what you open it with, If you open it with Windows picture and Fax viewer and not Microsoft Office Picture Manager, it works fine and you can see all the pages.

its grand. if i rename it - it works prefectly. i was programming my own viewer and it would not open tiffs - so i was needing to convert them to gifs and jpegs. but it now works with tiffs - so super. now all i need to do is make sure that if i am using a scanner does it scan in in tiff format - from what i read and hear a lot of scanners scan in tiff - is that true?
