Antrim: Women punched and dragged from car
    Sunday, 13 May 2007 20:11
Two women were threatened, punched and dragged from their car by hijackers in north Belfast, police revealed tonight.

The women were driving in the Antrim Road ahead just after midnight on Saturday when they were approached at the junction of the Lansdowne Road by two men.

The driver in her 40s was threatened with a knife, punched in the face and pulled from the car while her passenger - in her 20s - was grabbed by the hair and dragged from the vehicle.

The car, a red Hyundai Accent was driven away and found destroyed by fire a short time later near Crumlin.

The women, while shocked by the incident, escaped without serious injury.

The Police Service appealed for anyone who witnessed the hijack to contact them.----

These incidents seem to be getting more and more common and more violent. Sure why wouldnt they be i suppose when theres absolutely no deterrent for acts like this in this country. That crime should have a minimum of 5years jail and suspended sentences should be done away with. Morejails and longer sentences for scummers is whats needed. Why is this country such a joke.

Well does it matter where it hapened, the point is its getting more common and the government arent doing anything about it, longer sentences need to be put in place for such scummy losers.

Of course it matters if its our government/judicial system that is being given out about. It happened in a different country.

There have been more hijackings than that specific one i happened to mention. The point is its getting very common in Ireland too, and tougher sentences are needed, theres no need to get too hung up on where the above incident happened as im not talling about the specific incident, im talking about in general. Whereever the incident occured doesnt affect the main point im making.

Regardless of whether your generalisign you cant use foreign examples to make your point. I mean you may as well use columbian kidnap stories so, they ar emore common there and youll have a good choice.

Theres lots of hijackings going on.There should be anti hijack alarms in cars.So if you press a button which is placed under the seat the car wont start again. This is available in Asia because theres loads of car jackings abroad.

Can anyone see the logic of hijacking a car, with people in it, only to burn the car out "a short while later"? Career criminals, when planning bank jobs, do not hijack vehicles stopped at traffic lights it attracts way too much attention and its hardly subtle. If its just opportunist scummers, still seems like a risky way to get a 20 minute joyride.

perhaps some of ye similar folk can use the incident where the Estonian chap was killed in swords hijacking couple weeks ago.
Was that not a phone/mugging that went bad?

Seen as SteKelly cant see that a car-hijacking in Ireland is pretty much the same as a car-hijacking up the North and not like a completely different crime like people kidnapping/hostage taking in Columbia, perhaps some of ye similar folk can use the incident where the Estonian chap was killed in swords hijacking couple weeks ago.

Thats exactly my point. The may have been more but thats the only car jacking I can remember being reported here in a long time. Hardly an epidemic. As far as the crime and where it is is concerned, it may as well be any country aroudn the world, just because another country in on th esame land mass as us doesnt mean we can use crimes that happened there as a reaosn to say our government / justice system is failing. Are the spanish looking at the kidnapping in Portugal and saying "jesus , we could be in trouble here, that practically happened in Spain, our police are **** cos that happened"?

Nearly forgot. pne, fup bleh arghj   (just for you Nutzzy)

It didn't happen in a different country. It happened in Ireland. Not all of us view our nation along 26 county lines.
