iTunes CD burning problem

Well, I've been trying many things to get my music burned onto a CD for my car.

The problem is that every time I make a playlist and click burn disc, it asks me to insert a disc (a CD-R music CD is what I use). It then goes to checking media......and then it just stops, no error message or anything.

    HELP!

Have you tried using another disc? Does this CD have anything on it already?

I have actually tried over 50 CDs, but the one I used this time is one I just bought today, and it won't work.

    I don't think it's the CDs.

    Fair enough. :)

What version of iTunes are we talking about? Can you burn from other software?

If you go to Help > Run Diagnostics > CD\DVD Diagnostics what results do you get?

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
    Gateway E-6000
    iTunes 7.1.1.5
    CD Driver 2.0.6.1
    CD Driver DLL 2.0.6.2
    UpperFilters: GEARAspiWDM (2.0.6.1),

    Current user is an administrator.

    Video Display Information:

    RADEON X700 Series
    RADEON X700 Series Secondary
    NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 (Gateway)

    Connected Device Information:

DiskDrive, Maxtor 6Y080L0, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]
CDROM, HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B, Bus Type ATA, Bus Address [0,0]

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    D: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B, Rev A105
    Media in drive is blank.
    Get drive speed succeeded.
The drive CDR speeds are: 4 8 12.
The drive CDRW speeds are: 4 8.
The drive DVDR speeds are: 4.
The drive DVDRW speeds are: 4.

The last failed audio CD burn had error code -128(0xffffff80). It happened on drive D: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4020B on -128(0xffffff80) media at speed 0X.

Looks like its seeing the CD drive fine.

Have you tried uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling it? Have you tried doing the same with the CD drive? Do you have other burning software like Nero installed?
