Personally, I can think of better ways to spend a grand on gear. Why do you want the Warbeast?

I wouldn't be mad on the guitar and I wouldn't go for one myself but if he digs it, it seems decent enough. There's a Peavey Bandit on adverts.ie which would get my money over that Line 6 too, not that it's a bad amp, just that there are better deals out there.

Get a better cable though, Planet Waves and the like, spend a bit of money there. No point in plugging any guitar into any amp if the cable is a piece of ****.

I wouldn't get a flight case unless you actually need it either. If you genuinely need it, fair enough, but if you don't its a lot of extra weight and bulk to be carrying around.

If you're budgeting a grand, i'd spend an extra few quid on a cable. I've reams and reams of broken/useless/unrepairable cables accumulated over the years. Planet waves is the only brand that's lasted more than a couple of months. I've managed to break one just recently, but that's after about 3 years of using it. Money well spent.

They have a lifetime warranty, Ive brought one or two old broken planet waves cables into musician and they were replaced with no problem :D

I'll have to read up on it to see if I need the receipt.

All the more reason to buy them:D

Personally i wouldnt buy anything listed above. Well mabey the line 6 just for an amp to have a mess around with but if your actually gonna be using for gigs(micing it up and stuff) i wouldnt go there.

I think you might be able to get a 400 series ltd for around 80 quid more than the warbeast. They are the bees knees and if you like your pointy shaped guitars theres the AX guitar. Shop around for theese though as ive seen sites selling em for anything up to €900 :O .

For an amp id get a cube 30 mabey or a peavy bandit. Much better than line six imo and make sure you get your hands on a plannet waves cable ive had mine since i started playing guitar and it still works perfect unlike any other cables i used which brake really quickly.

Y'know, I'm going to go ahead and say I think the Warbeast looks slick. With a couple of moderate upgrades, methinks it could be a monster of a guitar.

I wasnt asked for one but I know some of the lads in there fairly well. According to the Planet Waves FAQ you are supposed to have one:

    http://www.planetwaves.com/FaqAnswer.aspx?ID=6338

You could always buy a new one, keep the reciept, and return a week later with the old cable! You cant have enough cables :D

I think the Warbeast is a really nice guitar. Almost everyone else I know have a Les Paul or an SG or maybe Strat. I have a Strat Squier and I don't want another guitar of the same shape so I thought that if I'm going to get a new guitar I'd like something that really looks cool that I like and that few other people would have.

I've never really been a big fan of those shape guitars.

    This kind of cable?

    What kind of upgrades?

I imagine new pickups would be the main upgrade there.

An EMG 81/85 setup would probably suit that type of guitar.

I would look around before buying that BC rich. Dont get me wrong they make some great guitars! But i think theirs better out their for that price! As Patricide Said the Ltd ??-400 series! they are great! Great pick ups everything!

What I would do to that Beastie:

*Upgrade the trem to a Kahler Spider or something of that variety
*Pickups would go immediately in favour of a DiMarzio X2N and an Air Norton.
*Re-do the wiring, wouldn't expect it to be up to much.
    *Rock out.

i would agree with it wasnt me if your set on the warbeast, cept i wouldnt bother with the khaler but thats just me and my hatred of tremlos, if i was to get any trem though itd be a khaler.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 23,363 Mod ✭✭✭✭feylya

Can't find any links to the Kahler Spider but if it's like a normal kahler, it won't fit the hole for the Floyd. Don't know if that'd be important to the OP

Ah, I did not know this. Perhaps an Original Floyd or an Ibanez trem or something so, just an upgrade on the stock one.

But yeah, new pickups, re-do the wiring, sort the trem, that could be an absolutely smoking guitar methinks.

I'd say something like a Tremol-no might be worth a look.

How about a Gibson Explorer? Everyone has strats (including me) and /or LP's.

Another alternative is the Ibanez Xiphos:

    109444.jpg

I had the pleasure of playing one two days ago, even though I could tell the craftsmanship wasn't the same as my prestiges the playability blew me away. Normally I would steer clear of shapes like this but now im heavily gassing for one of these, or an old Jackson Warrior!

That's a fantastic suggestion right there!

Wouldn't need anything in the way of upgrades either, as that particular model comes stock with DiMarzios, and Ibanez make absolutely fantastic trems, far better than what'll come on the BCR. Probably a better buy in the long run.

Not at all. A Xiphos from guitarbargains.com is €609.

Then you have to consider how much new pickups would cost (€150 for a set of DiMarzios) so even if you were going by Thomann's prices, the Xiphos works out cheaper in the long run. And you've got a far better Trem. ;)

Ah, the good old XPT, stands for 'extra pointy thing'...

I got a hold of the catalogue pics for all the 2007 Ibanez's (shortly before they were released) from a guy who works for a Ibanez delaer in the US.

I stuck on an extra appendage onto the XPT and posted it on the Ibanez.com forum. It found its way onto loads of other forums and was taken seriously :D

Was still showing up in a google search for XPT for weeks after :D

Thanks for all the replies and ideas for different guitars but I'm still set on the Warbeast. Around 2 years ago I was thinking about getting either the Beast or the Warlock and couldn't make my mind up and a couple of months ago I saw the Warbeast and thought that I had to get that one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,658 ✭✭✭Patricide

well i know the feeling, but any of the guitars listed really would blow it outta the water stock. Youl be spending a good bit o cash to get that thing sounding sweet. bdsm humbuckers are rubbish.

I wouldn't bother with €30 on a cable. The plain black Planet Waves can be got for ~€10 and also have a lifetime guarantee I believe. I guess the circuit breaker could be useful in a live setting with multiple guitars but otherwise I don't see the point.
