Great shots. Living in holland myself, I know and see every day that the
Classic Car scene over here is very much alive, but apart from the clubs and gatherings and stuff, driving Classics as everyday mode of transport is something that is very common and extremely popular over here, and has always been.

In fact, the Volvo Amazon is the absolute number 1 car of choice here for people who want a reliable, practical and stylish car for daily use, and there is always a huge amount of these cars on the market.

I have always found it very strange that the Volvo Amazon has never really taken off in Ireland, until I found out that Volvo only started selling cars in Ireland until 1974.... so as a kid people wouldn't have seen the car around very often, and the fathers, uncles, neighbours etc, wouldn't have had one, so that 'soft spot' isn't there with these cars, as it is with the likes of Fords, Vauxhals, Morris/Austin, MG, etc...

Its such a shame that the price of petrol in NL seems to force everyone into horrid horrid modern diesel euroboxes. Spent a fair bit of time in holland last year and was very dissapointed in the selection of cars (apart from amsterdam of course) one or two nice yokes on the motorways but on the whole, boring as a belgian barman :D

Well, I would aggree with you that at 1,40 a litre for Unleaded 95, petrol is pretty steep here in Holland, but to claim that as a reason for people being pushed into the Diesels, goes a bit too far I think. At least here in Holland we have a pretty very serious alternative to cheap fuel and that's LPG gas! The autogas is Hugely popular here, and car manufacturers like Volvo, Mercedes, General Motors, Ford offer LPG conversions straight from the dealer!! So no messy backstreet conversion, but full warranty system through the dealernetwork. With LPG Gas at 49 cents a litre here at the pump it does make sense! The downside is that you pay higher Motor tax for Diesel and LPG cars, but it still works out a lot cheaper if you do reasonable mileage.

An interesting consequence of the cheap LPG is that since Classic Cars are TAX Exempt, as you can gather, LPG is a very, very popular option for the classic car lovers. I would nearly be fairly certain in going as far as that almost 75-80% of all the American Classics in Holland are converted to run on Autogas! Friend of mine has a 7.0 litre engine in his Lincoln Continental on LPG and his fuel bills are less than my Mercedes 200 Estate petrol :D.

As to the country , if you look at the pictures above, it's not all doom and gloom on the nations streets: if you consider that EternalSunshine was able to snap all those classics in the space of an hour tells you something about the interesting subculture of Classic Car lovers (and users!!!) out here.

Interesting about the LPG. Didnt know that it was popular in Holland.

And would agree with the number of classic cars here. They are everywhere. (used to own a 73 merc coupe so would notice older cars).
