Hi ... my pc tends to be shutting down on its own, during tasks without warning. It can be annoying. I have ran virus scans, spyware, adware etc but it still happens. ive ran hijack this and this is what was in the logfile. Can somebody look through and see if there is anything out of the ordinary?
    Thanks

    Gary:confused:

First you need to make sure that HijackThis is run from its own folder, not from a zipped file, so the backups it creates are saved.

    * Open My Computer, then click C:\ and then on Program Files or another folder that is easy to find.
    * In the menu bar choose File >> New >> Folder.
    * That will create a folder named New Folder, rename it to HJT or some other name you are likely to remember.
    * Copy and paste the zipped folder here, right click on the zipped folder containing HijackThis, choose Extract files, extract it to this path: C:\Program Files\HJT or whatever you named it.

Please run HijackThis from this folder from now on.

We must disable the Real-Time Protection feature of Windows Defender for it may interfere with the changes we need to make.

    To disable Real-Time Protection:
    • Go to "Tools" | "General Settings"
    • Scroll down to "Real-time protection options"
    • Uncheck "Turn on real-time protection (recommended)"
    • Remember to reactivate this feature when we have finished all our work.

Run HijackThis, click "Do a system scan only" and check these entries

Unfortunately I don't see any bad malware on your pc, just to make sure please do the following

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
    Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
    Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT

    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
        Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
        Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases

        [*]Click OK
[*]Now under select a target to scan:

        • Now click on the Save as Text button:
[*]Save the file to your desktop.
[*]Copy and paste that information in your next post.

So I need the HijackThis Uninstall List, a new HijackThis log, and the Kaspersky Webscanner results.

Well you don't seem to have too much malware, so not sure if this will help.

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Remove MyWebSearch if present

Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Remove iWin Games if present

Run HijackThis, click "Do a system scan only" and check these entries

        O2 - BHO: (no name) - {8CA5ED52-F3FB-4414-A105-2E3491156990} - (no file)
        O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {014DA6C9-189F-421a-88CD-07CFE51CFF10} - (no file)

Please delete these folders in bold if present

        C:\Program Files\iWin Games
        C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch

You seem to be using two anti-virus programs, AVG and NOD32, this can lead to conflicts and could be responsible for shutting down your pc. You need to uninstall one of these programs, I recommend keeping AVG, go to

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Remove Eset or Grisoft(AVG anti-virus)

Also, AVG anti-spyware and Ewido anti-malware might be causing a similar conflict issue, so I recommend you uninstall one of these programs. AVG anti-spyware is excellent and free so I recommend keeping that, go to

Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Remove AVG anti-spyware

Your using an old version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, this can leave your pc open to vulnerabilities, you can update it here :
        http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

You now need to update your Java and remove your older versions.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components.

        * Click Start > Control Panel.
        * Click Add/Remove Programs.
        * Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in the name.
        * Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE), and install it to your computer.
        http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Go to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to get it

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop (choose "I ACCEPT" then click "DOWNLOAD" on the website).

Double-click fsbl.exe then accept the agreement, click > "Scan" then > "Next".

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name "fsbl.xxxxxxxxxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

        • Now click on Scan Settings
        • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
          • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
            Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
          • Scan Options:
            Scan Archives
            Scan Mail Bases

            [*]Click OK
[*]Now under select a target to scan:
              Select
            My Computer

[*]This will program will start and scan your system.
[*]The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
[*]Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
            • Now click on the Save as Text button:
[*]Save the file to your desktop.
[*]Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
            Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
            Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

So in your next reply I need the Blacklight log, the Kaspersky Webscanner report, the HijackThis Uninstall Manager log, and a new HijackThis log.

is your computer set to shutdown when its cpu reaches a certain temperature?

also, your version of explorer.exe has uppercase extension..(Explorer.EXE) i know this will sound silly, but ..possibly this is not ligitimate version of windows you have.just a wild guess, you should follow what ActorSeeksJob said first though.

Hi ... the version of windows is very genuine. Bought legit in PC World 2/3 years ago. I dont think thats the problem.

I tried the Kaspersky Online Scanner and it got to 99% completed on all occasions and shut down. It did find stuff when scanning which bugged me.
Is this scan able to run in safe mode with networking?

            Gary

          • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,970 ✭✭✭ActorSeeksJob

Yeah try that, if Kaspersky found something it might explain why your pc acting up.

            Did Blacklight find anything?

Also post the HijackThis Uninstall list.

Once you done all these steps and posted the necessary logs, we try something new.

it sounds like a rootkit, at this point, you could try to run icesword, but the rootkit mightn't let it run anyway.windbg might work though :) possibly the rootkit would disallow kernel debugging, would probably be easier to just re-install.

          • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,970 ✭✭✭ActorSeeksJob

Yeah thought it might be a rookit, hence why he should be running Blacklight. Prefer to use gmer myself if i want a detailed rootkit scan.

Did Blacklight find anything when you scanned with it?

Strange why Kaspersky wont run...That scanner is the best and could probably tell us what's wrong. If possible can you try boot into "Safe mode with networking" and run the scan again. To get into Safe mode you reboot your pc, keep pressing F8 after you hear a beep or see the windows login screen. You will be given a few options, pick "Safe mode with networking". Tell me if that works.

            Concerning your uninstallation list :

Do you know what "AV" is?
Please uninstall Eusing Free Registry Cleaner, this is a rogue product that gives false positives. I recommend using CCleaner for cleaning the registry.
Internet Worm Protection is for Norton AntiVirus right? I'd also recommend uninstalling this product as it may clash with AVG.
Also uninstall J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
You can also uninstall AVG Anti-Rootkit Free, Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Spybot, you don't really need these programs.

I'd be pretty surprised if this was a virus issue, please do the steps in my previous post, when you have done them send any reports you get.

I suspect this is more a hardware issue, some google searches are reinforcing my theory, this isn't my area of expertise, but there are two things we can do.

Go here and run this program Memtest
            http://www.memtest86.com/
I think it takes a while to complete so may need to leave it on over night.

            After that go here
            http://pcpitstop.com/pcpitstop/default.asp
Run the "Full Tests" and post the log from it when done.

Hopefully somebody else will contribute since this seems to be a hardware issue, and I don't know particularly much about hardware :)
Please post all the logs though!!
