I don't usually do gig photography but got distracted on my way to Howth to do some bog standard sunsets by a concert of pipe music in Malahide.

I shot some photographs although it's fair to say that a) I don't do gig photography b) I don't do flash photography c) I didn't have free run of the place and d) I was shooting using 300mm zoom most of the time. But I think they turned out okay.

The gig was open air, on the street and hosted by Malahide Pipes and Drums Festival.

the band in question was the Finlay MacDonald Band and they were great fun altogether.

The light in the first one is lovely - that's not flash is it??

I like the middle one. Love the motion on the bow.

The zoom honestly worked well for you as you had good light, which is a kind of blessing.

i like the 2nd one -- the bow looks great ---
did you use flash as sinead suggests, i got shot down for using flash for gig photography -- doesn't look like you did to me, as the lighting looks good and natural.

    Hi folks,

I've been out of the country, so hence no replies. Sorry.

In answer to the question about flash - it was an open air gig and still slightly light, so yes, I did use flash. I wouldn't have if it were an indoor gig. Actually I probably wouldn't even have tried if it were indoor because it's so not my usual thing unless I can use the flash. That being said, for the top photograph, I'm not sure it made a huge difference.

anyway, thanks a million for the comments.
