ask another company for a quote on a "job" that you have for them

*sorry to be slightly off topic*

I wonder, would the Arts Council support setting up of a new animation studio?

Good idea, we had thought of that first but thought we would put our faith in the older companies out there wanting to help the little guy...........................could we have been more wrong! Are you in animation marktsang? We are setting up our company regardless of help from other companies but it would be nice to see someone step up and give advise to the newbie

the arts council looks like it has alot of money to throw out to people in the arts but i'm afraid we're not the kind of company that wants to do all that modern art/meaning full bull that everyone else seems to sponge off them for. We want international merit for Ireland without having to make reference to the famine, and 1916 rising! Dont get me wrong, we love our country and thats why we want to go international. ExperiMental you working in animation or media?

any chance of a PM on your info? we have basic prices for ads and the likes but as with all these kinds of things there are agents in place to regulate the prices to a certain extent. what are the guys you work for like? do they know your boards handle? cause then i understand if you dont want to talk "out -loud". We're not really worried about the lack of info, just find if funny the way its so hush hush :) i love the way the best stuff/most notable in 3D in Ireland at the moment is Winnning streak..........we are being laughed at PPL

my handle is my real name -
the best 3d in ireland is far from winning streak - look at the milk ads from ruari robinson for the canadian milk board, lotto ads ect.....
winning streak is not a fair representation of the industry here

Fuddlymillbyrne: I don't work in the media or animation, I'm currently producing a work portfolio. I've done a few graphic design jobs in college for no pay at all. I'm drawing comics and I'm thinking of selling/distributing them to people for the sake of cheap entertainment.

However, I'd really like to work in animation, for at least a month, just to put some skills that I've learned into practice. Btw, I can't do character animation yet.

Go to your local arts office and seek help off an arts officer who can gather the information for you or he/she may find somebody who knows that kinda stuff.

I know of a few people who work in 2D/3D animation and a few more who used to. As far as I can see its hard to make a decent living at it here. Anyone I know who is still doing it, work on on off projects with little income in between and the best jobs seem to come from London as overflow work from other studios. If your extremely good (world class) you might be better doing your own shorts and go that route.

thanks for the heads up, its hard to get stuff out there and get the money for it but i reckon i'll piss off enough people and they'll eventually come around. No one gives you any help which will make it that much sweeter when i get what i want i suppose. Do you know th names of any of the various companies your friends contacted? it would be a huge help if you did

    Cheers

    Hi guys,
Just wanted to say i love ruairi robinson's work (especially 50% grey) and all that, but can we not do better than bloody comercial advertisements. Surely we have more of a creative background, with our age old storytellers, old irish myths, legends etc., to be producing lotto ads, fig roll ads and the rest.

There has to be better Irish, story based 3D animation, that would appeal to the greater audience. And I think Fuddmillbyrne is right in steering clear of the arty-farty stuff too. It has no appeal on an entertainment level, and people do want to be entertained....
