I work in RTE

I'm getting a bit sick and tired of all the posters bitching about RTE as if they know something. I work there and will try to answer as many of your questions as I can to the best of my knowledge. Everybody is supposed to pay their licence fee and if yopu do you are all entitled to proper answers about anything to do with the national broadcaster. I'll patrol all the thread and see if I can straighten things out.
If it gets too abusive or the workload is off the scale, I'll have to stop.

    OK.

Why do RTE spend money importing a lot of great US progams and then schedule them after midnight?

I've posted the reply for this question on a thread entitled - 'Friday night Lights on RTÉ' originally posted by TarfHead

    Ok

As far as i know, when RTÉ purchase the rights to a programme from the US they also purchase rights to other shows made by the same network. It comes as a 'package'. Showing FNL at this late time is RTÉ's way of testing the show with the audience. If it gets rave reviews from the public then it may be rescheduled at a more pleasant hour.
So, its nothing to with ratings but rather to do with how much coverage it gets in the papers and word on the street, etc.. ?

I presume the progammes work out cheaper when buying a package? Makes sense.

Last Saturday night, I was watching Naked Camera around 00.15 when it cut to a break. Except it didn't go to any ads. It went straight into Lost for some reason. So RTE proceeded to show 15 minutes of Lost, when Naked Camera should have been running instead.
When the first ad break in Lost rolled around, it didn't return to Lost, or even Naked Camera.
It went straight into Entourage. I presume the noraml running order resumed from then.
Obviously there was a f*ck up somewhere, but the fact that RTE couldn't be bothered running an apology on screen or acknowledging it somehow amazed me.
Especially considering all the advertising for your chance to see the shows you missed during the week.

Accidents and mistakes happen. Have you ever had a problem and made a mistake at work?

I'm sure that your main issue is with the lack of apology though.

Why did RTE not acknowledge the fact that there was a cock up?
Yeah sure, it was an easy mistake maybe but if there had even been an apology running along the bottom of the screen, you'd wouldn't feel like you were being treated an idiot.

They do know something... they've been watching television all their lives and know what they like and don't like.

You've already made a flawed statement about the television license in your opening post, so clearly you don't know everything either.

The folks in Montrose don't apologize - remember they are above all of us mere mortals.

Do you feel like your being treated like an idiot?
Maybe they thought that not very many people would notice the mistake on a Saturday night at 00.10 !
the short answer is I don't know

As a couple of posts have started to point out, this thread will just descend into a piss-take. Not worth it!

And to the OP, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

    Locked!
