I'm taking the big plunge next year and I'm looking to track down a new model Rolls Royce Phantom to rent as the wedding car. Anyone know where I might source this? Ideally in Cork, I actually saw a wedding today in Cork using one of these so I might just be lucky.
    Any help appreciated.

I thought you would have a couple yourself!

Q for yourself: What is the Cill Airne doing in dry dock over in rushbrook? I like that boat, it would have made a lovely private yacht!

I'm pretty sure it wa a Phanton, there were quite a few cars in the convoy all kitted out with ribbons, most of them really nice motors, all 7 ser, S class etc. so it may have been "borrowed" as opposed to rented. They were on the South Link heading into the city yesterday at approx 5pm. I was tired & hungover but I think was stil alert enough to say it was a Phantom.
I cannot think of any other car I would like to use. Don't really want to go the vintage route & herself won't let me go for the A-Team van or the Dukes of Hazzard Charger! :D

As far as I know the Cill Airne was sold in the last year or two to a private company who were going to re-fit it as a floating restaurant. It was then going to be docked next to the Jeanie Johnston in Dublin. Maybe it's being kitted out there?
There are also two water buses there that will potentially be used as a "bus" service to Cork stopping at Cobh, Passage, Rochestown, Blackrock etc. i read somewhere that a connsultancy company were doing a feasability study on it.

I don't think you'd want to tbh, I've seen the treatment hire cars get first hand like idiots driving onto the beach at low tide, getting stuck up in Clare or somewhere and ring up to see what will they do? the tides coming in and the cars going to go for a dip or just generally wrecking it, doing donuts and handbrake turns and wheel spins and this happens to a Focus or a Corolla, could you imagine what death a Ferrari or a Roller would get!!!!

I was talking to my cousin and they were going to do it here but they can see to get an insurance quote to cover them for the high end cars.I wonder where des cullen or sports and classic get their insurance. The problem with insurance is its not normal insurance its for rental so nobody covers high powered cars yet but soon they will have to.

TBH I only want a chauffer driven Phantom, I would be worried sick having to midnd that on the day!!
I'll probably end up in an S-class but it should still be OK.

As for insurance on high end cars, a neighbour of a friend of mine (based in Garryvoe of all places!) specialises in this type of insurance, I got talking to him and he told me that he brokers for a UK company that insures things like fine art, wine & specialist cars. He told me of a story where a guy wanted to insure a Lambourghini for 2 days for 300 miles, it was his Lambourghini but he normally doesn't drive it and has fire & theft only on it most of the time.

The Cill Airne has just arrived back in Dublin and was chatting to one of the owners just today and he told me it will be launched very shortly, maybe I will be able to get some pics of its interior.

staying off topic - I spent some of my TY work experience at the wheel of the Cill Airne between Custom House Quay and the harbour mouth.
It's exciting passing beyond Blackrock Castle with a container ship coming towards you!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,570 ✭✭✭rebel.ranter

You think that's exciting, try coming up against one of them container ships fully loaded on a 21ft sail boat going at full tilt!!!
Myself and a mate of mine regularly go sailing in the harbour & we were trying to push the boat to the limit on this particular day, paying attention to all the little details, except of course what was coming towards us, not joking it missed us by about 5 foot! We are normally very careful but for some reason this day we were only concerned with getting the knots up.
