Posting for a mate on this one - He was diagnosed with coeliac's last year, and has been managing on cider and wine since, but is beginning to get bored of it. Are there any gluten free beers availible in Dublin that people know of?

He's been looking at rice beers, but has been told that some types of rice may have gluten, or gluten might be brought in while brewing...so dosn't want to take the chance obviously.

Any help would be appreciated :)

There are only two gluten free beers in Dublin i know of but im sure there are more. Heron Beer is one and Glutener is the other... Unfortunalty Heron is quite exspensive at around €4 to €5 a 330ml bottle where as Glutener is a little less at around €3 a bottle. Hope that helps somewhat!

Just be careful with some gluten free beers, as they can still contain a % of barley or wheat in them, which some time is not listed on the label. Most notably most yeast is grown in barley wort with can result in gluten in the beer. Australia has pioneer gluten free beers, making them from sorghum and millet, from old Africa recipes, as is not the main carbohydrate source grown there.

White lab or wyeast, I can remember in the US has brought out a range of gluten free yeast, so there should be an increases in this beer range.

Here is some additional info on the range that available

    Guide to Gluten-Free Beers

I know this is a rather old post, from 2007 I think, but it has some great information about gluten free beer. Any updates would be appreciated. Redbridge is a gluten free beer, not mentioned here, made by Budweiser, widely available in the US. I like it, not as heavy as Bard's.

Estrella Daura is the one my mate drinks. I've had it a few times over in his & it's quite a nice beer actually. He said he's tried most & it's the only one that's any use.

GFA and GFL aren't bad, at least they taste of something. Not giving out cos it's a godsend but the Estrella is the Budweiser of the gf world!

I have here a Green's Premium Golden Ale, and a Green's Premium Pils.

Both state that they are "Gluten and wheat free".

Both list as their ingredients "Water, hops, yeast and de-glutenised barley malt" (the pils lists maize as well).

I can't remember where I bought them, but I saw at least one of them in Sainsbury's in Derry on Wednesday last.

Will report back when I've tried them.

Thought I'd resurrect an old thread rather than start a new one.

Does anyone know of any GF beer that comes in a can? Thinking of bringing some to festivals this year and they usually don't allow glass bottles in.
