Switching Courses

Hey i was just wondering what dit's position is on switching courses i.e. is it possible to change course in first year before December if you realise the course isnt what you expected? I had a huge amount of trouble trying (and eventually failing) to do this in ucd last year, so are dit any more forgiving?
