Much better card with added Dx10 support for the same price, also silent cooled.

Other then that it looks pretty good. Maybe throw in an aftermarket cooler and overclock to the high heavens. :)

edit: And maybe then use this ram, for an extra few euro...so you're still in your same budget.

Both of those seem to be better alternatives. Did I read somewhere that the 8 series video cards perform more poorly than the 7 series under DX9?

No. The 8600GT performs closer to a 7900gs then a 7600gt in games. The 8500gt is a bad card however....at least, for anything games orientated, while the 8600GTS is way overpriced. You really can't go wrong with the 8600gt though.

Well then I'll almost certainly get that. DX10 support makes it significantly more future proof.

Well, I've ordered it. Thanks for the advice Havok. I got the 8600GT and memory you recommended.

For anyone else undecided between 7600GT and 8600GT, I'd point you in the direction of anandtech who have a benchmark which directly compares the two, the 8600GT coming out ahead in all games tested.
