Pool game dodgey result- whats the rule

So last night was having a few rounds of pool with my mate. He had left a few Millers in my gaff a few days prev, so the bet was basically if I win I keep the beer, if he wins he gets them back and I owe him six more too.

Anyway, in one round he had potted all but one of his balls while I still had 4 reds left on the table. In a comeback not seen since Lpool v Milan I somehow managed to knock 3 reds in from a single hit of the white, even though I was badly positioned, itr was pure chance. Anyway, few shots later and it stands that my mate had the right to pot the black, while I still had to wait until Id potted my final red (i.e. he had cleared all his balls, I had one left). Anyway, he whacks for the black, the black first knocks my red in the pocket before going in itself.

So whats that result? I contend that because he knocked my ball in first, along wth own, I didnt get the chance to benefit from the two shot penalty and therefore I win by default. He contends the black went in, therefore he wins regardless.. Whats the rule?

I drank his Millers regardless :)

You win as he fouled by potting your red.

Yup, if he fouls in the same shot that he pots the black, it's your game.

    ^^ concur

Should be a copy of the pub rules published on the wall where you can confirm these things

Pool rules differ from pub to pub, and from town to town. In my local, you'd have won the game.

I agree with the other posters. If he fouls when potting the black you win.

Yea, that's not even one of the dodgy pool rules that vary from pub to pub.

Aye .... It was a foul. If he pot the cueball it would have been a foul too, one that he'd admit to quicker probably!

Some pub rules differ but I'd have thought that fouling on the black
was a standard "opponent wins" rule.

Same as if he had potted the cue ball along with the black, you would
have one (in my opinion anyway)

By law you must now compete in a coast to coast dog-sled race to decide to winner.

No your friend is right he clearly won

Only messing, you won. He was justa sore loser, but in fairness there was a bet at stake so I would have lied too

if the white hit the black ball first surley it's not a foul if the red drops?

in my local he'd have been ok once he hit the black first.
