Connecting with SATA & USB

I just bought an external HDD that has connections for SATA and USB. I have two computers running, one is SATA comaptible the other isn't. I can connect the drive OK to both machines using SATA for the newer machine and USB for the older one. I was wondering if I can connect both machines to the drive at the same time, one via the SATA connection and one via the USB connection or will it explode in a fireball if I try? or does the drive only allow one type of connection at a time.

    Thanks for any advice.

I'm guessing only one at a time...does the manual not give any indication?

Could you leave it connected to the SATA machine and share it over a network?
