New York Hotels/advice

    Hi,

Looking into booking a couple of nights away in New York later in the year for me and the girlfriend and am just looking for some general advice!

Looking at mid-October at the moment for 5 or 6 nights, flights can be got for dirt cheap so want to get them booked up quite fast - would going earlier or later say September or November affect the price of flights/hotels much? Not sure how that would work over there. In October I can get direct flights return for €290 each.

Last year I spend a week in New York and stayed at the Morningside Inn, somewhere to sleep and thats about it - the place was a dump. Definitely not a place I would take my partner anyway, was ok for going with a few friends but never again.

With that in mind I am looking for a nice place, preferably in and around $250-$300 a night for the room to keep it about €200 a night if possible. While location is a factor, and being central is handy I dont mind being a subway journey away from the thick of things for the right hotel.

So far I have been looking at The Rockefeller Center Hotel which is very central and not too pricey, though the rooms appear to be on the small side according to tripadvisor. So far this would seem to be the best option I have found which is why I am asking for alteratives so I dont go rushing in.

What kind of places have you stayed in before, where they decent on location/price/comfort/service all the usual questions. Be great if you could share your experiences with me to help me make an informed decision.

    Thanks :)

I booked a great hotel www.belvederehotelnyc.com, its near restaurant row and within walking distance of many of the sites, I got a good deal when I booked.

    Or try http://www.purelyamerica.co.uk/

I stayed at the Affinia Dumont hotel in April with my boyfriend and couldn't recommend it enough. Think we got it for around 200 eur a night - not cheap but not too bad compared to NY prices!

Hotel is about 3 blocks east of the Empire State Building so within walking distsance of all the major attractions, hotel is modern and I can't say enough good things about the staff - very friendly, knowledgeble abut the area, and nothing was too much trouble. The room itself was very big, and the view was fab (I think we were on the 30th floor or something like that).

Have attached a few pictures for you. If you have a look on tripadvisor.com you'll see more and the reviews are great as well (thats the main reason we picked it in the first place).

    Red Roof Inn Manhattan.

I stayed there and it's very central, breakfast included and clean with nice sized rooms.
