This more a rant, but i'm just looking for opnions.

I came home this evening to find my skybox but not power on. I called sky support after doing a few checks myself and told it was stuck in standby mode and i needed to un-plug the box plug it back and hold the backup button to update sofware, this should only take about 10min. I left it for 45min still no sky back, so i again called to be told that my sky was basically ****. They offered to send a engineer out at a total cost of €100. My rang is basically i pay for a monthly subscribtion to sky and now they are charging me for a new box which they provide me. I would assume that if that one is faulty they replace it at no cost as its still technically there equipment. I've a good mind to cancel the whole thing as i dont see why i should have to pay for a skybox that they provided. This is will be the third skybox i have had in the last 8yrs. The current one which is gone, i only have just over 2yrs.

I just find it mind blowing i have to pay for a replacment box that should be replaced for free if its faulty?

Just interested in comments from current or past sky customer's, no smart ones pls ;)

As far as I know, you only have a 1 year warranty on the box.

You own the box after the 1st year. So it is your problem. Try asking your phone company for a new phone when yours is broken!!! Or a new heater from the gas company because yours has broken.

That said.......Rumor has it that if you tell them you will quit the service rather than pay for a replacement box (also throw in that your cable provider has some good deal on digital tv packages) they will replace it at their cost.

I was thinking of cancelling sky altogether as the season is over and re-ordering again in August. I was just wodering if they come do they take the satalite dish back as well? or just cancel the service.

Any info, would be great thks. I think i might call tomorrow and cancel.

Box, remote, Dish etc is yours now. If you cancel your subscription you keep the hardware. You could get a 2nd hand box on ebay, link it to your dish and still get the FTA channels.

Tell them you're cancelling and they may do it for eur50 and replace the box with a refurb.

You could also actually cancel (prepare to fight) and then go back in August during their offers.. I did both (over about 2 years) and when I went back with an offer I got 1/2 price for 6 months and a spanking new box. It's normal practice.

Of course this won't really work if you can't get RTE and someone is really really mad about missing Fair City....

my uncle's box broke down and they wanted €100 to replace it. i got on the phone and told them to cancel the subscription, the rep asked me to hold and then came back and said that because we were such good customers (full package and a few prem plus matches over a few years) that they would replace it at no charge. be prepared to fight them and if they do let you cancel then just sign up to one of their deals under a new name. also if you want to cancel and they are trying to persuade you not to, tell them you are moving to france and is it ok to bring the box and sub with you, the reply will be "sorry to see you leaving us" but you will get no more crap trying to make you stay.
