problems burning CDs on iTunes

Using iTunes 7.1.1.5 on XP sp2 and have been having loads of hassle with burning CDs.

I don't think it's the drive that's the problem, I can burn discs with Nero no problem, and I'm pretty sure I had the same issue before I upgraded iTunes to version 7.

When I put a blank CD in, iTunes doesn't seem to recongise it being there and I'm sure it normally does (like tell you what to do to burn onto it) - that said Windows doesn't seem to give me the general options either, like open in XYZ, open as folder etc.

When I try to burn a playlist it seems to start but stalls on the first track for ages, then it starts to cancel the burn and says an unknown error (4000) occoured.

Any thoughts on what it could be?

    Have you tried different media?

    Also, you can try this:
    Go to Control Panel>add/remove
programs>iTunes>change/uninstall and click on "repair" (NOT UNINSTALL)
This will restore iTunes to be your main CD burning software and can solve the problem in some cases.

This is a non-destructive process but just in case you may want to back-up your music.

Let us know how you get on.

Nope - that didn't do anything I'm afraid.
What's interesting is that the discs seem to have a fair bit of info burned on them, maybe as much as 1/3 or 1/2 full... but they don't read when I put them back in.

I've looked around and plenty of others seem to have suffered the same problem - one suggestion is to see if my CDRW's drivers are up to date - anyone know of a decent driver site to find them on?

Still no joy with that yourself?

Pretty annoying, considering the fact that I have all my music on iTunes and now can't burn CDs without the physical disc.

I've found that both Nero and Deamon-tools can cause issues burning in iTunes, if you have either uninstall them, test and then reinstall them

    This worked for me :)
