No I think it switched to XXXX IE in the 70's and then back to XXX AIE in the eighties. I'd say early eighties - 83 or 84 ata guess from memory.

For those with an interest in Clare Regs., 1 AIE was first issued on the 9/78, with 1 BIE on the 1/79 and it lasted until 3/79 and the final number to be issued in Clare on the 31/12/86 was 107 XIE.
