I've looked up the Help in Outlook 2002 regarding setting up an Out of Office Reply.

Unless I'm going blind, it is not in the Tools menu, despite what the Help says.

    Help!

    Where is it?

    Thanks.

    This is in the Help:

Troubleshoot the Out of Office Assistant
Some of the content in this topic may not be applicable to some languages.

    This feature requires Microsoft Exchange.

One of my rules has a red X next to it.

When an action specified for a rule cannot be performed, a message appears, and an X appears next to the rule in the Out of Office Assistant dialog box. The message explains what needs to be done to correct the rule. To fix the rule, click Edit Rule, and then make any necessary changes.

The Out of Office Assistant menu command isn't on the Tools menu.

This is an Exchange add-in feature that may have been disabled. You need to enable the menu command.

On the Tools menu, click Options.
Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options.
Click Add-In Manager. Select the option Exchange Extensions commands.

    leche,

I browsed to that item and all three boxes were already checked.

So, I assume I should have been seeing the OoOA in the Tools menu. But, it still ain't there for some reason!

    Any other ideas?

    Many thanks.

I just did the same and all 3 boxes are checked on mine as well.
And the option Exchange Extensions commands isn't actually one of them.
I'm going to look a bit further, will report back

    Found this on Microsoft site.

You must be in the Mail view. The Out of Office Assistant menu command does not appear on the Tools menu in Calendar, Tasks, Notes, or Journal. Also, this feature requires you to be using a Microsoft Exchange Server e-mail account. Most personal e-mail accounts through an Internet service provider (ISP) (ISP: A business that provides access to the Internet for such things as electronic mail, chat rooms, or use of the World Wide Web. Some ISPs are multinational, offering access in many locations, while others are limited to a specific region.) are POP3 (POP3: A common protocol that is used to retrieve e-mail messages from an Internet e-mail server.) accounts and do not support this feature.

Looks like it cant work with POP3:(

    leche,

    I'm using a bog-standard Eircom account.

Does that mean I can't use it?

    Thanks.

Yep, as Eircom is an POP3 service.

Normally ISP's allow you to login via webmail and set an vacation reply there. Not sure if eircom do or not as I'm not a customer.

You can't with eircom. AFAIK they don't even have spam filtering (it is a paid service you can subscribe to for a fiver a month or something which is ripping off non-tech savy users who signed up to eircom email when it was a state body as it was the first ISP most people went online with, also ripping off business who need to keep their email address).

    Thanks guys.

I worked around it using the MSF help document: How to emulate the Out of Office Assistant in Microsoft Outlook.
