Ok travelling to S America and money is going to be tight. I will be traveling around for 1 month and a half then onto austrailia. Just wondering if it is worth bringing a tent, to cut down on accomodation costs?

Probably depends on where you are going, if you are planning on hiking or seeing the great outdoors/small villages it would be ok, if on the other hand you will be visiting a lot of big cities i'd say it would be a pain.

In general campsites would be far from centre of most cities and poorly serviced by public transport.

For the most part accom. in SA is very cheap and I'd only consider camping if I was travelling outside cities.....

I spent two months in South America two years ago. Accommodation is incredibly cheap. There is a great backpacking culture out there and unless you fancy hotels, a hostel is never more than a few euro a night.

I'd only recommend camping if you were really strapped for cash. Many of the hostels run special offers such as free food of an extra night's accommodation for free.

If you are set on camping, some hostels will let you camp on their grounds for a nominal fee.

    Enjoy!
