Has anyone else noted problems with there flickr total view counter .
Yesterday there was a height of activity on my account , with 3 or 4 photos getting viewed a 100 times or more , yet my overall view count moved up only by about 40 -- i've noticed this before , when it seams to go up rapidly on certain days , when there appears to be little activity .

Oh the vanity !! , maybe if Microsoft buy Yahoo, they will fix it :)

never experienced that, I'd be lucky to have 10 views on an image :(

I think the total might be batch operated - ie, it totals up at intervals during the day.

Is this the total views at the top of ones main photo page vs. the views on each photo? I always assumed that total views was the people who looked at the main page and then the views per photo were... per photo.

For example, it says my photostream as been viewed 8,294 times however if you add up all the views for each of my photos it only comes to around 3000... so it would appear that people are looking at my stream but not bothering to look at my photos...whereas in your case they might be looking at your photos directly but not then going and looking at your main page?

or are we talking about something completely different here....

    ...

ok i see , i thought a running total was kept of all photos viewed , did not realise this was a total of who viewed your main page only -- it would be nice to get a total of how many times all your shots have been viewed !

hmm i'm all confused with flickr here's some of my stats
503 views (on the main page)
630 views from the actual photographs (yea i'm bored :P )

And it looks as if pic's from boards C&C don't register at all, on one post I had 164 views on boards and yet 15 views for the photo.

I know its nice to look at stats but I gave up on it, I couldn't find anywhere on the net where they could explain how flickr works out the figures.

Devart stats are all over the shop too - I have had pictures that get X amount of people marking it as a favourite on its first day and the picture counter shows that less than that amount of people have seen it.

Also where a picture is added to an architecture group where it gets a hundred or so views (of these a good portion should click the link to the full size original) and the original picture counters dont move.

It also has the habit of going into readonly /system maintenance at times when european viewers would be most active

Thats an easy one, if you've included the pictures inline in the message then chances are people won't bother clicking on them and going to the flickr page. I very rarely do, unless I want to view a bigger version of the picture. So it won't be counted.

I have well over a million views on Flickr but only a tiny percentage show up on the stats. Now isn't that a complete pain in the ar$e! ;)

I'm a programmer of sort's and I used to make web based app's and I know that that flickr would/could still record the links to the photo's such as
    http://farm1.static.flickr.com/214/489693048_f636941a57_b.jpg
would be easily linked to my flickr site.

Guess they just don't want the hassle of it all

Photostream views not matching picture counts have always been a confusing one in flickr...

    http://www.flickr.com/search/forum/?q=photostream+count

As far as I am aware, and as was discussed above, photostream views are number of times people have dipped into your photostream - a page with multiple images - while an image count includes counts of all the times that image page has been viewed - this can be accessed by url or from a group or set.

This has also be confused by caching in the past but believe it is ok now....

its a pity it doesn't give the grand total of views , who really wants there photostream viewcount , i want to catch Valentia's 1 million target , i've only 249,676 views to go ;)
