    Hi All

The GF's mother has just bought herself a car and needs to get her provisional. She had one previously and it has expired- does any know how long a provisional licence, issued before the driver theory testing system, can be expired for it to be renewed or will she just need to sit the DTT?
I know full licences can be 10 years expired before you need to re-sit just can find the info on provisional's....

afaik if it expired 5 or more years ago she goes back to the start and has to sit the theory test and the licence is counted as a first provisional. Otherwise it's counted as a second provisional.

    From http://www.citizensinformation.ie/categories/travel-and-recreation/motoring-1/driver-licensing/provisional_driving_licence#rules
If your provisional driving licence expired 5 years ago, then you must undergo a Driver Theory test before a new provisional licence can be issued.

Anyone thinking of getting a provisional, apply before the end of this month. The pre-driving requirements go way up after that AFAIK.

    Not your ornery onager
