Just tried a German Beer called Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Märzen which uses smokemalts. Probably one of the most unusual beers I've tasted in a long time. It's a good smooth beer but i can't help but be reminded of a smoked cod from down the local chipper. Some of the flavours are almost identical! It's definatly different, not sure i could drink more than two though. Still definalty worth a try!

I brought a few bottles of Schlenkerla back from Germany last year for my mates to try (a mate there brought a crate back from Bamberg). I got mixed reactions! :D

It has an amazingly smokey aroma. A bit like a smoked ham I thought. Nice to have one now anda again, but I wouldn't be drinking it all night :)

Hmmm.. I have an Alaskan smoked porter waiting for me in my "cellar". Wonder if this is the same idea? I'll have to try it soon and let you know how it is. I bought it in the States, by the way, not here.

Had a pint of it at a beer festival a few months ago. Very unusual taste. Was nice though. Kinda tasted like smoked bacon, without the bacon, if that makes any sense.
