Lens Sharpness

    Hi All,

Is there an easy method of testing a lens' sharpness? By easy, I mean something I can do at home. I have two Sigmas - a 10-20 and 24-70 and I'm not sure if they are soft or not. Some images look soft, but I'm not sure if it's my focusing that's the problem.

    Thanks

I'd like to know too, for that matter. I feel my 17-85mm is way sharp, especially away from the middle.

Simplest method I've come across is to photograph a newspaper taped to a wall.
Print should be sharp all the way to the edge etc.

Make sure the camera film/sensor plane is parallel to the wall.

Tripod, time shutter, not direct light, something sharp like newspaper or branches.
Try different focal lenghts and apertures for each focal lenght.
