Im planning on buying the new Onkyo 605 amp and newly released Jamo 5.0 speaker system in the coming months. Are there any Irish shops that sell the very latest equipment for a price similar to the UK?

    Hi,

The short answer to your question is no - prices here are usually sustantially more expensive than in the UK. Peats in Parnall Street stock some stuff, as does Harvey Norman but the prices are a far cry from even advertised prices by shops in the UK, let alone webpricing.

If you're not hung up on that exact equipment have a look at Belfast based www.lyrichifi.co.uk and especially at their "specials" - second hand and demo stuff basically but there are serious bargains to be had there particularly with speaker systems.

Of course Cloney in Blackrock have the serious high end gear and a few units below that.

What sort of budget and what level of DVD player?

You could try www.audiovision.ie in Galway

    I got a quote of €1600 for:

    Onkyo TX-SR674E Receiver

    Jamo E660 PDD

    and Philips DVP5960

While individual prices were nothing special, they did offer a good package deal. I spent the day checking around the web and would save nothing by buying from 3 suppliers in 3 different coutries.

On the plus side, they're knowledgeable and friendly
