Well the Lakes Tour in Cumbria is on this coming weekend, and it's been all hands to the pumps on the MkII for a few days now.

Apart from normal servicing, I replaced the coolant (removed and reverse flushed the rad), and also changed the brake fluid. I thoroughly recommend an Eezi Bleed btw.

I've had a carb overhaul kit (DGAV) for over a year now, as I noticed the odd drop of dark gunk was dropping down from the inlet manifold onto the (white) oil filter. NCT man mentioned it last time out too.

So last night 2 of us went at removing, and overhauling the carb. We changed gaskets, seals and 2 diaphragms (which were weeping) - one for the accelerator pump and the other anti stall. The jets looked fine so these were left. All went back together perfectly, thanks largely to a wee bit of skill, and the good instructions from Mr. Haynes's manual.

Carb. cleaner got the gunk off easily, and we noticed a crack at the very end of one of the fuel pipes whilst reassembling. A quick cut and all is well. The work was enormously satisfying. I was a bit scared of pulling off and plugging fuel lines, but it was easy enough. Clamping the hot water hoses to and from the auto choke meant coolant was not lost. The car is really flying :D

Taxed it this morning (3 months €152) and I've a wee hole in the back box to be plated (stainless steel replacement awaits in Cumbria apparently) and an oil change to do.

A quick clean up and it's off towards Dublin Port Friday at 4pm.

Is the Mad Cow really bad currently? Any tips on avoiding it if so coming from the N7?

I'll post pics and links after the w/e.

No pics of the carb overhaul but the exhaust soldiered on for another 12 months, with a hole being plugged by gun gum, before finally giving way the other day to a full stainless steel system made by Janspeed.

It was easy enough to fit too, and sounds great :D

I must grind off those rear pipe hooks though.
