    Hi,

Has anyone ever bought a refurbished camera/other stuff off refurb sites?

Is it a reliable way to go? which sites are good? The prices I've seen are suspiciously low.

Specifically I'm looking for a DSLR. A D70, D80, EOS 400D, something along those lines.

    Thanks!

I bought an old SLR a while back for 40 quid. Don't think I'd go that way with a Digital one though. Generally, if the price seems too good to be true then it probably is. Plus there would be too many potential issues.

    Where are you looking?

Right now I'm looking at refurbdepot.com, ebay, amazon, jessops, and anywhere Google takes me.
Fuji have their own refurb store on the UK website, which probably makes it more reliable, but I couldn't find anything similar on the Canon or Nikon sites.

If its a bricks and mortar shop then thats one thing. I know Camera Exchange give a six month warranty on all their used stuff, but you might find it hard getting what you're after. I'm sure most other REPUTABLE shops, online or no, do the same. Private sales online I'd be wary of myself, or sales from companies you don't know.

I guess just make 100% sure they have a decent returns policy. Who has to pay for postage, how long it'll take etc. Don't be drawn in by prices. Something half price that doesn't work isn't much good to you..

I would be a bit wary of refurb gear, my 350D has about 50,000 actuations on it and I dont know how much longer it will hold together. I would hate to think if I traded it in somebody else would buy it not knowing its history, Just be careful
