I'd guess someone forgot to pay their annual subscription for the domain. Looks like a holding page..

    It's a DNS issue apparenly.
    See here >> http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=53199249

But yeah, I don't know why that'd result in it pointing to some crappy cybersquatting site.

The site's operator has been having some problems with their DNS hosting.

Bumper ... hopefully it will get sorted, twas an excellent site ...almost as good as this one :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 379 ✭✭digitalbeginner

The problem is sorted now, an attempt to correct lack of email notification for posters ended up causing servers to point the address at one of these 'catch all' pages. Depending on your Internet Service Provider you should see the site come back from about now. I'm on NTL and we're always the last to see these changes so I'll still be checking past midnight!!

Whatever your belief, please have a quiet word with your holy entity to help keep Mark's blood pressure below boiling :)

Oh man, that would be a real sh*tter if that happened not unless you are prepared to pay a little "extra" for it.

I'm sure the crowd that currently have the domain already have a figure in mind... something like hmmm $250,000 perhaps

Thats a shame.. Only just discovered it a few weeks ago.. Any sign of it getting back up and running?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,764 ✭✭✭Valentia

I disd a "whois" yesterday on it and it was registered to Mark until June (2008 I think) but today the "whois" has no reference to him. Weird or what?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 MikeBard

Nothing more than a simple DNS issue I'd say. The 'whois' I did just now returned Mark as the current owner. I read somewhere on here this morning that the dns had been changed yesterday and as one user on here rightly stated, it takes 24/48 hrs for the dns to propagate properly. Usually within the 24hrs mark you'll see the site one minute and it'll be gone the next. This is quite normal. I have approx 22 domains out there and whats happening to www.PhotographyIreland.net is nothing unusual.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

yeah, it'll be gone one minute.. but not replaced with another site. If the DNS is in the process of being changed it just shouldnt resolve to anything and should come back with a 'site not found' error. The page that's coming up now is exactly what's coming up for a domain of mine that was pinched

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 MikeBard

DNS usually resloves to a page holder until fully propagated rymus. Once fully resolved then it will point to the site. If the site hasn't been setup on the hosting server then it will point to nothing.

What's the story with your domain? How do you mean pinched. Can you explain abit more about your issue

    Thanks folks.

Yep the problem is with the DNS and hopefully it'll start righting itself shortly.
The site itself is still there intact just unreachable via www.photographyireland.net.

While trying to fix an email issue some folks were having and an intermittent performance issue, I noticed that the DNS (on the domain reg site) was incorrect. I fixed it and the email issue went away. Several hours later the site got redirected to that 'parking' site you see.

Got in touch with the US support folks via phone and discovered that I only had a web hosting account and needed to have a DNS hosting account as well. Jeez you think that they'd tell you this stuff 12mths ago.

Anyhow purchased the extra account yesterday evening and am waiting for it
    to come right again.

Better be soon :) On the upside, ya like there is one ;), the email issue and intermittent slowness problem should be resolved for good.

    Thanks all !
    Mark

    Good news!!

Guess this is a good case for irish hosting..

What happened Rymus? I thought they couldn't sell a domain on unless you'd let it lapse? Was it .com?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

yup .com.. Just assumed it'd gone the same way as the 'parking' page thats currently being displayed for photographyireland.net is the same page (albeit with different links) that's showing up for my domain. Doesn't look like any hosts parking page I've ever seen.

It's also a little interesting that a traceroute on both domains (pi and my own dead one) currently travel the exact same route up to 20 or so hops... Fishy...

I've had those search pages show up on domains I've let lapse. That's why I assumed the same thing here.

.com are a bit of a bugger that way. At least with a .ie you have the whole registration process thingey. Bummer of a thing to happen Rymus. Have they tried to resell it to you? I had one crowd who bought up every other version of a domain I had once (the .net, .com etc) and tried to get me to bite.

    Hey Baz,

True, its not slow 99.9% the time, but over the past 3-4 weeks there was the odd slowness that had started to creep into the site. Was starting to annoy the heck out of me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,273 ✭✭✭Morlar

Just logged in a few mins ago so PI is back in business.

I still cant get onto the site, also some of you said it ends in .com but it actually ends with a .net.

    Did anyone get this Error-
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 120 seconds exceeded in F:\USERS\mtracey\www\phpbb\db\mysql4.php on line 118

Works fine for me and has been most of the day. Clear your pc's cache Merv and try again

Worked from work earlier on, but now from UCD I still get the wrong page.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 264 ✭✭mtracey

Performance issue has finally been resolved (just been told by the US support people in the past few minutes).

If you're still having an issue getting to the site, MikeBard above is correct, its either you local cache which needs to be cleared out and maybe even followed by a reboot.
If you accessing through work or a proxy and the above doesn't work, then its likely that the proxy's cache isn't up to date.

Thanks to the boards folk for allowing these updates to take place here.
    Owe you all one!
