    Hi Guys,

On the way to work this morning @ 8.20 ish I noticed a new speed trap (mobile) on the M1 northbound
It is right on the apex of the silp road to the M50 and it was a blue scooby forester with a nice camera in the back and 2 Garda in the front.

I travel this road every day and this is a new location and time for them to be there.

on a side note how far away from the camera can they catch you from? :p

    Cheers

    Mik

Were they sitting on the side of the slip road?

Nope they were sitting on the M1 side just where the verge begins.
    See pic attached

Oh right - when you said 'apex' I took this as the apex of the bend of the slip road.

That scooby is some beast alright. The Traffic Corps cars are assigned routes each morning in which they patrol. On their routes they look out for people dangerously overtaking, speeding, using hard shoulders, crossing hatched markings, provide ambulance and maternity escorts. And of course are there to deal with any fender benders nice and quickly.

Just for your info thay do not have a speed camera in the back. They have a recording camera in the front which can tell the speed of a vehicle they are following alright.

Any other speed camera they use would be hand held and requires them to be static.

I'm not too sure where you get your info from but there was defo a speed camera in the back. I'm 100% sure
They were parked with it facing oncoming traffic. A big box with a nice lens in the middle. same as you see in the Vans
Why else would they just be parked there with no handheld camera?

Sorry if I'm threadjacking but my mate just texted me to tell me that theres a new mounted speed camera on the Diswellstown Road, Castleknock. Does anybody know if this is true?

I would doubt that a camera would have been placed here - its more likely to have been some kind of covert van or car. It could alos have been the gardai out with a speed gun.

What's the point? It doesn't get updated anyway.

That site shows mobile speedchecks from weeks ago. It's never up to date. Plus anybody can post a speedcheck and I know there have been several added which didn't exist at all: just for the craic.

In fairness and in my experience most mobile speed checks are not once off.
Especially the GATSO Vans. they do a rotation around several locations and can regularly been seen at the same spots.

That's true, but the cops tend to stick to the same spots so it gives you a good idea of where to expect them. And once the static cameras become widespread this year it will be a lot more useful.

I hope you are not responsible!! ;-) We do get some messers adding bogus speed traps but we try to remove as many as possible. The majority of them are legit locations.
