Problem updating Office XP (2002) and problem with IE.

I regularly get a message after opening Outlook 2002 saying that it has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I want to update it. If I use the Windows Update feature, I get 9 Custom Updates (only one if I use Express Updates - Microsoft Genuine Windows - typically, MSF are more concerned with whether or not I'm using a kosher version rather than making sure my computer is running smoothly!) none of which is an Office XP update.

If I go to this link.......

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/CD010225741033.aspx

I get loads of updates for Office XP. I may have some of them installed already, but then again...........?

    1. What and where is the Office Update tool referred to in the above link?

    2. Is there a faster way to update my Office XP? Particularly Outlook 2002?

Finally, when going to the above link in IE (I usually use Firefox) I get sometimes get a "IE has encountered an error and needs to close..." error. When I click on more info, it says that the cause is a Macromedia Flash that isn't up to date. However, in Add/Remove I can only see Shockwave. Where might Flash be? Also, in Start/All programs, I can't see Shockwave. Why is this?

    Many thanks.

    D.

If you're only seeing the problem with Outlook and IE, then I would say that one of their shared components is buggered. Are you using IE5, 6 or 7?

If you go to Windows Update, look at the bar at the top and it will say Microsoft Update click that link and once it is enabled you will get the updates for any Microsoft software on the PC including Office.

    8T8,

I never knew that! Many thanks.

    Aidan,

Once I updated Offfice and rebooted, I was prompted to update Shockwave. No idea why, but all seems well now.

    Thanks.
