    Hi all,

I am planning to purchase a digital camera from the UK based ebay seller. The price of the cam includes vat. Will it be possible for me to claim that vat back from the UK ?

Just to let you know that I shall be travelling to the UK in July.

    Thanks in advance.

PS: Title is not appropiate, I meant claiming VAT back from the UK.

Unless you are vat registered then no....

if you are then most sellers will send the item without charging vat...

Have you your own business? and therefore could be registered with a VAT no?

Can you please explain it a bit more ?

If you have a company with a certain amount of turnover you have to register for tax.

All VAT registered companies have a 9 digit VAT number on receipts for example a gas station.

By being vat registered you are liable for tax on this, also you can claim back vat on goods purchased for your business.

Also it's illegal for a company to charge you VAT who are not VAT registered.

Note I was not suggesting he use the VAT number from a business such as the petrol station.
