Check the volume levels on your PC - the speaker icon on the task bar or Sounds & Audio Devices in the control panel, it sounds like the wave level on the volume control is way too low....

All cords plugged in properly? Check equalizer setting, windows sound setting (mentioned above). What kind of card is it, if it comes with a control panle check that this has all volume sliders up as well.

Are you connected optically or via analogue cable to the hifi?

yes all cords are pluged in, went into sound settings and its up to the max, im connected via analouge cable, not sure what type of card it is.

you could try pluging the cable into another input on your hifi (e.g. Aux, tape2). Also get the latest sound card drivers and reinstall them.

start > control panel > syetem > hardware > device manager. It should be listed under sound, video and game controllers. Click the + to open it up

Just to keep things simple, I'd recommend going to your pc manufacturers web site first, they should have the proper drivers for download.

    Agreed.

Or better still, open up your case, and on the motherboard there will be the makers name ( asus, abit, dfi, asrock ect etc) and its model number.

Go to the mobo's makers website and search for audio drivers. This will give you a much better chance of sorthing this the the above advice.
