Was thinking about taking up this as a project,i love the thought of playing something ive made to perfect specifications of what i want. Can anybody tell me what kind of price id be looking at?For the bodywork etc,i have a good idea of prices for pickups etc.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Im presuming you aren't gonna be making the body and neck yourself? If not theres a few ways of going around this.

Mighty mite bodies and necks can be gotten cheap off Ebay and are quite decent for the price. They are also fender licensed so any parts made with fender specifications should fit these perfectly (bridges, pickgaurds etc). The necks however may require a little fretwork, Going this route would prob cost around €300 last time I checked.

Going higher up the trail would be Warmoth. Ive played some guitars built from their parts and they were great but expect to pay around €800 for a body and neck incl shipping and customs duty.

Another option would be Shamray, they'll build you a custom guitar to your specs and to save money you can send them parts which you can acquire cheaper by not buying them through them like pickups etc. Price depends on what you want really.

Beyond that there are plenty of smaller luthiers around the place. I'm currently getting one built for me by Richard Fay in England, its not cheap but its gonna be fantastic.

Carpo, are you interested in assembling a guitar from pre-built parts or starting with some raw chucks of wood? If the latter the above link might be interesting.
Someone posted here a year or two ago about a build your own guitar couse in the UK. I'm not sure if the above link is to that same one but it's certainly similar.

Yup! Bailey Guitars is the place to go if you want to build a guitar or bass.

Loads of choices, build it the way you want.

Day 1 - pick out the planks of wood from the selection.
Day 4/5 - Start jamming. That's all it takes.

It's a bit longer for the acoustic course and the glue or neck through options.

If you're interested this is the right course to do, if you ask me. I had a fantastic time.

The only problem is that I want to do another.

depending on the body you want, there's bargains out there

i picked up an early 60s duo sonic body for 40 bucks on ebay a couple years ago for a homemade guitar.

Just found this page - some nice cheap necks and bodies :

Not sure what's left and what's sold out.

Now I just need to stop myself from buying any of these.
