Just pulled this from Arnies in relation to a Star G36K

I've got a STAR G36K which I ordered from Wolf Armouries. I seem
to have a similar problem. It was initially shooting fine then the fps
dropped dramatically. I opened it up and found the hop up rubber
a bit shredded so I got a new hop up rubber piece and replaced it
but the fps is still far too low. Its shooting at something like 120fps now
and bb's are going a rubbish distance. I don't really know anything
about air seals and how to fix/improve it. I was wondering if anyone
could post a guide on how to fix/improve the airseal of the STAR
    G36's?
    Cheers

Just do a search in Google for the make and model. You should get a lot of stuff on them. Cant say weather or not Star ae a good make or not. Or check out Arnies You will need to register.
    Good luck,
    Max.

EDIT Forgot to say welcome to the group.

Most Star AEG's have transparant plastic gearbox's that are prone to failure quicker then full metal versions. I've heard the accuracy on some of them is quite bad, the FNC for example. Some might be fine but for the higher price you'd probably be safer going with a Classic Army.

hi, i just had to register to reply to this as im a bit of a star fan, star aegs are very much like ca have there problems but if you know what your doing there is no problem for this reason i would not really recommend them as a first aeg, until you know the ins and outs of a aeg and its gear box then i would go with a TM to learn.

I've currently own the star ump and ag36 and currently had no problems i have to say i did replace the hop-up unit and inner barre but i do that to every aeg I've owned. With the gear box the only clear plastic one I've come across is the the M249 line, all others I've come across are metal.

The are not many good reviews out there for the star line of aegs, this are a few of the best i've found.

thanks lads,i think il go with classic army on this purchase then,i think the g36 is around 350fps,slightley over 1 joule.would this be a big issue if i wanted to skirmish at htra???because most aegs are a bit over 1joule

Hmm...a g36 that's over 1 joule would indeed be a problem at HRTA. Firstly, Paul would not allow it to be used. Secondly, the person you shoot it at would not be too happy. Thirdly, and most importantly, it would be a firearm in the eyes of the law. So I hope you have a licence for it.

shouldnt be too hard to swap out the spring with a slightly softer one to reduce the power back down to 1 joule, but it'd have to be done before the aeg was shipped to you

Check the Classic Army site for the muzzle energy - its possible the site you're looking at buying from are overstating the power.

I've been looking for an M15A4 and most retail sites are saying the power of the CA version is in the 350 fps area, meaning it would be over 1 joule. The CA site is saying they're about 300 fps though, which would mean they're just under the limit. It seems to be the same with the G36 range.

After the first thousand or so rounds an AEG's fps will drop by around 20-30 as the spring weakens. Some sites do overstate the power on some AEG's, best thing to do is e-mail a reputable seller and ask them what the true fps is. WGC test AEG's for the true power, they have some videos on youtube showing crono results. I'm sure they'd be happy to tell you what a particular AEG's power is.

Most websites exagerate(sp?) the power abit. I have the CA catalouge and it says it shoots at 85-95m/s which is less than one joule.

Can i suggest this, its cheap, reliable and there are 5 or so people who have them on the site and they've (as far as i know) had no problems.

And the Star G36 has a non magnified red dot sight and a magnified scope built into the carrier handle which i like

Have a TM Aug Civ. Love the gun, it's cool looking and different!

You made the right Choice 16! :D Brilliant gun! No problems cept the foregrip is a little loose and my mag coil snapped but I easily fixed that (Had the same prob with the starter of an RC car.). You made one slip though...I think...

    Wolf: £230 ($455)
    WGC: $280

Dunno bout shipping but even with shipping $175 would probably still make it cheaper, especially as Wolf charge really high shippin(I think!).

You may wanna get some of these as the rate of fire is great. They look better and fit snugger(:p ) into the mag well. Also, its heavy, get a sling(I'm using string atm:D )

EDIT: Did you order batteries and charger?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 153 ✭✭16airassualt

yea i got a starter pack which had 1 hicap,2batterys,silicone,bbs and a charger.starter pack+gun+p&p came to about 510,realy pissed off bout dat price difference, well at least il know for next time.getting a job in a printing factory in glasnevin in the summer, pays round 400 a week nd im 16 so no tax,il be gettin a new aeg every week!!:D

    Wow, I'm 16 too . I really need a summer job.
Note ther price difference does not include import duty and more shipping from Hong Kong.

*I believe you may pay tax: You get €3650 tax credits as an unmarried(obviously) 16 yearold. That means if you work for ten weeks or more you pay tax on all that over your credits. It'll only be 20% as you'll never get into the higher tax band.

*Done in CSPE class a few weeks ago but may be wrong!

Any tax paid will be refunded when you return to school if you apply for tax back.
