I might be offered a 02 lotus elise in part ex for a something that I am selling, anyone have any experience moving one of these? Not a huge fan myself, I reckon you could easily clock up 12 points driving one of these for a few months, I prefer bigger cruisers. Book value probly bout 28-30 (02 softtop with 20k)?

In my opinion it will be hard to sell.Look on carzone and these type of cars havent shifted in a while

Tought to move as they are alot cheaper 2 be brought in from England, and many of the 2nd hand ones on the road here are here via that method.

Well thats what I was basing the price on, 13-14k sterling is 19-20k euro plus 9k vrt + exp...

I would think it would be a awful car on Irish roads. :(
Would only be worth having if Ireland had more tracks.
And as others have said the ones on usedcars.ie seem to take ages to shift.

Irish roads are actually one of the best places ever for a Lotus. So many twisties and country roads to explore. Without a doubt one of the best cars for the money, always leaving you with a big grin. But they are specialist cars and alot of people won't go near them because they just dismiss them as being to impractical. That being said 98% of people who say this have never sat in one or tried to use it for 'practical' reasons anyway :p

Great car to buy and use if you love driving. But it will be difficult to sell on as there are quite a few flooding the market at the moment. Not the best plan to take it in to sell it on. But a brilliant plan if you want some fun and would keep it for a year or two :D

I had figured a pothole could do big damage to this car?
BTW I saw a caterham 7 yesterday, wow that thing can take corners! :D

The 7's look amazing fun alright :D Not so far anyway. That being said you definitly keep a much closer eye on the road for potholes. However i did hit a pothole in a puma once and it completly wrecked the wheel so i guess it can happen to anything ;) Some bad roads are not all that comfy, and as a passenger it's way worse but at least it keeps you alert :p

as far as im aware if a pot hole does damage to your car,you can take photos of the pot hole and the damage, get a guard to verify this, send the photos and a quote for repairs to the council of where it happens and get them 2 pay for it.

Very lenghty process and they do mess you around but i know 2 people who have got replacement alloys from councils!

    Persistence pays off!

linders lotus sell hardly any a year, they're hard cars to shift...

If you are getting it as part ex., and you put it up for sale at a reasonable price, might shift quicker for you.
Not a popular car for the everyday person, but there is always someone out there looking for one for weekends.

I think I might try and take it and swap it in a garage that likes showpieces (owen crinigan is only around the corner from me) for something like an 02 7 series or they have a nice 99 840 at the moment...

Excellent cars, but horrendously overpriced here.

Hi, I work in the motor trade, I would be careful of these, very very small things can have a big impact on its price and the swiftness of its sale,

Is it on a dublin registration plate? What colour is it? Does it have a lotus service history? Being high performance has it been damaged/repaired? Do you know what to look out for to see if it has been, not being smart but a garage or experienced sales fella will spot all these things very very quickly

Also remember that if you reckon you can trade it in to a garage the figure they have in mind and the figure you think it is worth WILL be vastly different......

And the difference comes out of the discount you could of gotten off the car you are looking at buying,

If you need a hand, please feel free to PM me and I will help you out no problem!!

I would go to a garage that likes more special cars and take something that they would have taken in a trade in not a car they would have sourced. I am basing my figures on what you would land it from the uk and not irish prices which is what garages I know do, correct?
I would spot anything wrong with it aswell, I haven't even seen it yet and might not be offered it because as you said the price he thinks its worth/paid for it might be way off what I think...
