Yesterday's Irish Times reported RTE's Glen Killane (Head of Sport) that RTE will broadcast its first ever HDTV pictures when broadcasting this year's Leinster Football Final (15th July) on the trial DTT network.

Does anyone know if this DTT HD broadcast is going ahead this Sunday?

Apparently the Leinster Hurling final was broadcast in HD a couple of weeks ago....did anyone catch this?

You are watching the HD trials for Irelands terrestrial broadcasters on the digital terrestrial pilot brought to you by RTE, TV3 and TG4

Nobody else getting involved yet. All three HD logos are identical, barring the Channel name and different colours.

HD Ireland in the bottom left of the screen.

Can't supply screenies. Maybe someone else can?

EDIT: Sunday Game just kicked in.

No logos since the broadcast started.

I thought the colour depth and detail was excellent, but there was still some artifacts around the players, especially on wide shots with a lot of movement. However it was far better than SD.

Saw that they did a news report from the Croke park demo setup too.

It seems more high definition content from the Irish terrestrial broadcasters will launch tomorrow.

Good spot. I hope they're simul casts.

From 16th July a reel of High Definition content from RTÉ, TV3 and TG4 will be available on the DTT trial.

I'd imagine that that is just the Botanic Gardens, bus through Dublin and zoo stuff that they showed yesterday. Look at it often enough and you'll go insane. It's only use will be to show off to friends.

it's actually a fair bit better than that, some varied content. It's showing tennis from wimbeldon at the moment..

I'm tempted to pull a sickie, but I hate tennis.

well I wouldn't go that far, it's a 3 hour loop or so of various footage. I think the tennis is a couple of years old. However I believe the content will be refereshed now and again though.

Is that tennis BBC coverage or TG4 coverage?

i'm not sure it is either, its HD footage from wimbledon. There are no logos apart from the HD Ireland one.
it's also now showing 'Monster Garage' which was a reality TV show on Discovery until last year.

Channel 20 ? Do you mean band IV ch 20 ? surely that would require a group A aerial.

Channel 20 on the STB perhaps.

On the Saturday Show on 2fm, they made it sound like you could watch the HD broadcast on analogue terrestrial or Sky SD as long as you had a HD TV. Needless to say, I send a text to correct them. You'd think RTÉ would brief their staff on these things.

I'd imagine it's hard to make sure 2500 people (who have actual jobs to do) know exactly how everything technical going on in RTÉ works? Besides, this isn't an RTÉ trial, it's a DTT group trial run by the Dept.

Correct, Mossy. On the Humax DTT trial box.

Fair point. But they could at least inform the few who will be presenting; those who are likely to be in a position to be asked about it.

No commentary but the umpire calling the scores. It's a game from last year's womens doubles.

It says something like " A BBC Worldwide Production for TG4" before the tennis segment. It's just the raw feed.

Yeah, heard that. One of the presenters said they went out and bought a HD TV just for it. And, err - do you have a DTT trial box? Me thinks probably not.

I see an episode on Planet Earth is one of the programmes on the HD trial - currently showing episode 4, Caves.

Very impressive. I hope we get to see more of them, but I doubt it.

will the cork city match be hd

They never announced any other live HD broadcasts. Wouldn't surprise me if it was only GAA in Croke Park that gets the HD treatment.
