Mp3 Splitter - I like audacity its opensource and great for editing mp3's, you need to install the Lame codec to save to Mp3.

Print screen button - Grab application in Utilities folder

Image Resizer - Graphic Converter in applications Folder

 Never saw Graphic Converter as a standalone application.
I use ImageWell, though it is easily confused (I once asked it to resize an image up to 10241024 x 768768 by accident once...)

Print screen button - Grab application in Utilities folder
Even simpler if you just want to grab a screenshot of the entire screen: Shift + Command + 3. It'll save the screenshot as a PNG image on the desktop

Bloody hell, I forgot: use the Export function in iPhoto for batch resizing.

If you have a full-size mac keyboard, there is one, just like a PC, but if you are using the MacBook/MacBook Pro's keyboard, then it's a two-key combination: Fn+Backspace.

PS: Regarding screenshots, if you want a selection of the screen, choose the key-combo Shift+Command+4 and then drag the crosshair cursor over the area you want to appear in the screenshot.

Check the help file or, failing that, the Audacity site & forums.
Messing around with the program helps too :D

My mac (imac) just made a loud noise like a hair dryer and it made this noise for about half a minute, no more. then it stopped. It started off slow got louder, then the sound got lower and lower near the end. I think it did the same a few weeks ago, actually it did, it was weeks and weeks ago. What is this and does this happen to others ?

Jesus it would frighten the living daylights out of ya.

That app isn't free unfortunately, anyone know of free alternative?

I've got a 100GB HD, ~93GB after formatting and I have 43GB free. I deleted alot of stuff recently though.
I know it's too late but when I bought the MacBook the first thing I did was reinstall OS X minus the free trials and language packs and a few other unwanted clutter which saved me at least 5GB.

I'll have to check to be 100% sure but I think a standard OS X install takes up 12-16GB!

The program you want is WhatSize.
    It's freeware, too!

Also, Monolingual gets rid of excess languages w/out the OS reinstall process.

That would be one of the fans spinning up to full blast. It can be very loud (and scary) if you're not expecting it. This has only happened to me once since I got my iMac in November. It can sometimes happen out of the blue for some freak reason or else if you're doing something very cpu intensive.

Unless it keeps happening there's nothing to worry about. Download the iStat pro widget, it can monitor cpu temperature and fan speed.

Q1---I have a music dvd here in my hand, how do i get some of these videos into my itunes?

Q2---When playing big bang board games on the computer (any game) is there any way ( without saying it out loud ) of letting the computer know it plays like a monkey and then letting it know it is a monkey.

1)--- I donwloaded a program called handbrake, its free. Right now it is converting my dvd to itunes code thingy, it will take one hour for this. I hope it works i will let ye know.

and if you use Shift+command+4 and then hit space, you can save image of just one window on your desktop. handy!!
