I am interested in knowing what songs people have used for doing slideshows especifically for weddings but if there are unusual stuff you have done then throw them in too.

I've never made one but I'm guessing it'd be classical stuff. No? Maybe a bit of Oircade Foire? :P

I'd go for the Sex Pistols myself .... :D

It depends on the mood you want to set -

But one nice romantic piece for me is the Flower Duet from Lakme by Delibes ... used in BA advert years ago ...

Another nice up beat(ish) piece is Habanera from Carmen by Bizet ... there are lots of great pieces in that particular opera ... for action there is the Toreador song which could be played off against another piece the switch the mood... (e.g. women & men)

For football fans you could try Nessum Dorma

... classical options are vast ... have a look at this from JS Bach -

    http://www.amazon.com/Classical-Wedding-Traditions-Johann-Sebastian/dp/B00004TLNX

One great wedding classic is Ode to Joy ... Beethoven

or one of my personal romantic favourites is Claire De Lune ... by Debussy

For popular music there are great options from the likes of Rogers and Hammerstein, the Gerschwins (Progy & Bess), Lloyd Webber

...or there are the crooners Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Frankie, Bing Crosby, Matt Munroe, Neil Diamond ... to name but a few ...

For more contemporary ... well the options are a bit limited if you ask me ... I'd hate someone to set my wedding to Oasis ... and I love modern music more than anything else ... however, not if the Bride and Groom say they want it ... you need to be careful ... thier favoriates may not work and you may end up doing something they request that ends up being something they don't like because they don't have vision enough to see it as an ensemble ... matching scene to sound ... a good friend of mine who is a wedding photographer in Ennis turns down business if he thinks the brides ideas are going to be tacky ... your reputation and you style are important ... they are what makes you unique ... take advice but don't turn out any work you are not happy with as a compromise ...

The key thing is know your subject matter and get to know your clients ... the best salesmen are good listeners and applicators, not talkers ... contrary to popular belief ... ask lots of questions ... make suggestions and listen to feedback ... try it out, make demos, show how it works before presenting the finished article ... but don't impose solutions that are to your taste only ...

Having said all of that, I have to temper this with - this is just my own untested thinking. I've never really set images to music but I think you need to be careful setting images to music as it can be tacky ... you need to pick a piece that matches the rhythm / flow of the images ...
but I am training as a classical musician ... so you pick up things ..

Of all the times Ive seen this done the most requested piece or song is the one the Happy couple chose for the first dance !! That covers about 75% of the cases I would say.

Mike, you've had to sit through a few of my slideshows and have an idea of the music, but to put names to the artists and tracks:

    Eternal by P.O.D
Metamorphosis (all parts) by Philip Glass
Passcaglia, Something Dark is Coming, Allegro, and The Shape of Things to Come by Bear McCreary (Battlestar Galactica seasons 1-2 soundtracks)
Chants 1 and 3 from the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack
The album December by George Winston
Veris Leta Facies from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff.

PM me if you want them and I can slap them into a tarball.

I try to pick music that's not instantly recognisable by everyone in the room as I find it personally annoying, and I also try for low-key pieces that won't distract from the slideshow itself.

I remember seeing a montage of video from a wedding on a site that was set to coldplay's 'yellow'. It worked surprisingly well, considering the song is very depressing...

I have used the theme to Dances with wolves in a lot of slideshows that I have done (of horses and hunting). A lot of contemarary music is suitable for weddings, also can be selected by the age of the couples. I would love to do one of these as I have a load of experience working on proshow. Give me a shout if you need any help.

Groove armada would strike me as a good choice. stuff from the likes of the Chill Out albums would help, google for the album track list

I'd be more inclined to go for the classics - When I fall in love (the Nat King Cole one) or What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong, that type of thing. Obvious I know, but less tacky than the modern stuff.
