Ok ,as spoken about in my thread for info on dual booting ubuntu with XP.
I've got a problem where ,I can't load a driver in ubuntu which allows me to switch on my Wifi. I cannot load my wifi with software ,a driver is needed so I can switch on the hardware.

Heres a link for linux users ,that may make it clear the problem I am having http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-341453.html :o

I don't expect people to do things for me ,but I don't recognize program loading commands in Linux. I am fine with dos and can Dir/s directories etc.
I was about to buy Vista ,but if I can sort this out ,I'd use ubuntu.

what laptop/card do you have ?

you would probably need to use the ndis wan wrapper thingymabuzzer

had thought that the BIOS controlled the WiFi on/off on laptops
*shakes fist at BIOS's that disable WiFi when you upgrade your mini pci card even when you've covered the pins  *

I'm a complete golden nugget when it comes to this stuff.

I never thought of looking into the bios ,maybe there is a bios rip that bypasses the boot ???

I have a ipw2200 card in my dell 9300 and the led indicating whether it's on ot not doesn't work in linux and it has been finicky at times but generally if it's on in windows when you reboot it will be on in linux(even though the led wont show it).

It might be different on ubuntu though. Have you run the commands iwconfig and dmesg as in the link?

I've had the opposite problems with ATI Radeon mobile 9000 , a reboot from windows XP into knoppix and the display was garbaged - cursor was a square and stuff didn't redraw properly. Must try version 5

actually try http://www.knoppix.net/get.php as it's very good at picking up general hardware - though I can't say if it will detect your Unspecified device.
