    Short question here.

In job under three months, get paid monthly. Got offered much better job.

Legally etc, how much time do I have to give my boss for my notice to leave?

    Thanks

If you have a contract it should be stated in that.If not your only 3 months but been paid monthly you should give one month's notice by right. But this is the real world and enployers know it,two weeks would be nice but if your under presure for new job give a week.Oh one last point if your job is high up manager etc you will have to give a month, also the new employer should look at the bigger picture why would they want to take on someone who will leave next day.

Most jobs have a 6 month probation period when only a week's notice is needed on either side... check your contract...

This 'payed monthly' rubbish that gets mentioned occasionally on this board doesn't apply over here. If the contract mentions a notice period that applies. If there is no contractually agreed notice period then the legal requirement is zero notice if the employee has been there less than 13 weeks and one week otherwise.

That said, I think the most sensible thing is to draw a balance between rushing off from the current employer and making the new employer wait.

thanks guys, I have no written contract, the work is very badly paid and the hours are mad, bad and horrible..so have no regrets leaving.

Going to give two weeks notice, I think that should be ok?

    Where - Galway?

    Where - Galway?
Ireland. Sometimes when notice periods come up here someone comes along and says that it's the same as your pay interval. It was always my impression that this was something some people had picked up due to legislation from another country.

Anyway, in Galway all you'd need to do is say you were sick and blame our crypto-enhanced water. ;)
