I downloaded a file from a filesharing system and now I cant delete it. I dont get an option to delete the file itself, cant send it to the recycle bin. Have tried sending the whole folder to the recycle bin but when i empty all it does is delete everything except that file. Ive tried using McAfee shredder and it says "the above file name is invalid" and wont do anything. Ive no idea what sort of file it is.

Does anyone have any idea how I can delete this maybe using another programme or through Dos or something? I'm on XP.

Do you have permission to write/delete the file?

Im the administrator so I presume so.... I just went into safe mode there and managed to delete the whole folder... I presume this has done the job and it hasn't virus ridden my whole computer? Im running a McAfee scan now.

    Try this

    1) Please download the Killbox.
Save it to the desktop and run it.

    2) Select "Delete on Reboot", and then select "All files".

    3) Copy the file name(s) below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

    eg :
C:\Program Files\The File you want to delete

    4) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

    5) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Edit : Safe mode probably sorted it out for you. what was the file name out of curiosity?

problem is i couldnt get the filename. I was trying to download comedy football photos off a programme called frostwire. After i downloaded the programme i realised it wasnt a jpg just ended in .cix.jpg. When i right clicked, I couldnt get an option to get properties to get the full filename, it also wouldnt give the option for delete. It was in my "shared" folder in documents and settings, but interestingly in safe mode the folder was called "Shared.SH!"

    Its all very confusing
